Q3 2006 Southern California VC Investments Hit $835.3M
PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association have released the Money Tree venture capital results for Q3 of 2006, showing that Southern California investments reached $835.3M in the quarter, second only to Silicon Valley in the total dollars invested in the region. Microsemi Buys PowerDsine
Irvine-based Microsemi, a manufacturer of analog and mixed signal semiconductors, said today that it is in an agreement to purchase Israel-based PowerDsine Ltd. PowerDsine develops power-over-Ethernet products. The deal is worth $245M in a combined cash and stock deal. Power-over-Ethernet products are used for powering network devices, including WLAN access points, VoIP phones, and remote security cameras without requiring additional A/C connections. Newport Buys Laser Business From Picarro
Irvine-based Newport Corporation, a maker of advanced photonics technologies for the scientific, aerospace, defense, and industrial manufacturing market, said yesterday that it is in a definitive agreement to buy the Laser Product business of Picarro. The Ottawa, Canada-based business designs and manufacturings solid-state lasers for the life and helath science, and process control market. Boodle Ties Into Valpak
San Diego-based Boodle said today that it has signed on Valpak.com, a local coupon content Web site, to carry its printable grocery coupons. Valpak.com, which provides local coupons on its web site and through direct mailings, will provide Boodle's online grocery coupons to visitors to its web site. Valpak is owned by Cox Target Media, a subsidiary of Cox Newspapers. Juice Signs College Tonight
Los Angeles-based Juice Wireless, a mobile content sharing community, said this morning that College Tonight, a social networking web site focused on college students, will use the company's JuiceCaster service to enhance its products. iQstor Rolls Out Storage System
Newbury Park-based iQstor announced today that its 4Gb/s Fibre Channel storage system, the iQ2880, is generally available. The developer of storage systems for the small and medium enterprise said that the storage system provides 4Gb/s Fibre Channel storage support, integrated with volume management and virtualization, mirroring and snapshot, and other management features. The storage device supports both high performance FC drives or low cost SATA drives, for a capacity of up to 11.25TB.
