Fonpods Adds Mobile Service
Los Angeles-based Fonpods, a Web 2.0 startup providing access to podcasts via phone, said today that it has added a new service to allow consumers to retrieve podcasts without having to create an account or browse through content. The firm said its new Fast Access Service allows podcasters to promote their content to listeners. The service includes an access number and feed ID that users can use to directly dial into podcast content.

Xirrus Adds Wireless Load Balancing
Westlake Village-based Xirrus, a provider of Wi-Fi arrays, said today that it has added load balancing capability to its products. The firm said that all of its Wi-Fi arrays now support load balancing of wireless channels, tracking load on Wi-Fi channels and automatically moving stations to improve throughput. The firm said that the technique works without the need for loading end-user software. Xirrus is funded by August Capital and US Venture Partners.

LeisureLink, Groople Partner On Vacation Rentals
Pasadena-based LeisureLink and Denver-based Groople said today that the two companies have partnered to offer vacation rental accomodations for group travel. Groople will offer LeisureLink's inventory of vacation rental properties as part of its group travel search tools. LeisureLink operates a booking service for vacation rental properties; Groople's travel services are targeted at group travel booking. Dot Hill Announces New Storage Platform
Carlsbad-based Dot Hill Systems has introduced a new storage system, announcing at Storage Networking World its new Dot Hill 2730 product. The firm said that the new storage device is already shipping at OEMs and system integrators, including DVS, Hammer, Maximum Throughput, Onstor, and Stratus Technologies. The firm's new product provides 4Gb Fibre Channel connections to Serial-ATA and Serial Attached SCSI disk drives, with up to 56 drives, performance of up to 1.1GB per second on streaming rea (More info...)

Siderean Names CEO
El Segundo-based Siderean Software, which is developing enterprise search tools, said today that it has appointed a new CEO. Michael A. Schmitt has joined the company as CEO from Ariba, where he was EVP and Chief Marketing Officer. Schmitt has also served at JD Edwards. Siderean develops information navigation software, and is backed by Clearstone Venture Partners, InnoCal Venture Capital, and Red Rock Ventures.

Siafu Takes On Tape Encryption
Poway-based Siafu Software, a provider of iSCSI storage appliances, said today that it has added tape encryption capability to its line of products. The firm's new Siafu Sypher Encryption Appliance provides compression and encryption of tape data. The new appliance will start at $6,995 and be available this month.
