Service-now.com Gets $5M Investment
San Diego-based Service-now.com, a provider of hosted IT management services, said this morning that it has received $5M in a Series B funding round. The round was led by JMI Equity. Service.com provides software-as-a-service offerings for managing help desks, knowledge bases, and IT and service asset management. Service-now said that the funding will be used to expand the firm's sales force and build the firm's infrastructure. JMI Equity was a prior investor in the firm.

Quanlight Gets $1M
San Diego-based Quanlight announced today that it has received $1M in a venture investment from Blackbird Ventures, a private venture funding group in San Diego. The firm, which is developing light-emitting diode technology, said that Neil Senturia, principal of Blackbird Ventures, joins the firm as CEO in conjunction with the funding. The Active Network Makes Two Acquisitions
San Diego-based The Active Network said today that it has made two acquisitions. The firm said that it has acquired PreEnroll, a provider of online registration services, and SPORG, a developer of online data collection and transaction processing systems. Financial terms were not disclosed. Both firms provide services for community-focused events, sports, and related areas. AOL's Pittman Joins Spot Runner Board
Los Angeles-based Spot Runner, a firm providing Internet-based ad placement services for television ads, has added AOL's former COO, Robert Pittman, to its board of directors. Pittman is currently at investment group Pilot Group, and was previously COO at AOL Time Warner, COO at America Online, CEO of MTV Networks, as well as CEO of a number of other firms. Spot Runner operates a self-service, web-based platform for placing local television advertising.

PriceGrabber.com, USATODAY.com In Partnership
Los Angeles-based PriceGrabber.com announced today that the firm is in a strategic alliance with USATODAY.com. PriceGrabber.com will provide comparison shopping tools for USATODAY.com's online marketplace. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. PriceGrabber will provide comparison shopping services in Consumer Electronics, Home & Garden, and other categories. PriceGrabber is a provider of online comparison shopping services, and is owned by Experian Interactive.

Yahoo Finance Taps Fox News For Video
Santa Monica-based Yahoo Finance has tapped FOX News as a provider of video business news, the firms said today. The two have co-branded Fox Business Now, an online financial video series, which premiered yesterday. The deal calls daily, two-minute market reports each weekday which will be posted on Yahoo Finance. FOX News will also provide other business news and investment content to Yahoo, and will cross-promote Yahoo Finance on-air on FOX News.

MySpace Taps Security Provider To Find, Delete Predators
Los Angeles-based MySpace.com announced this morning that it is in an effort to tap the technology of Sentinel Tech Holding, a provider of online identity and background verification, to search for the profiles of registered sex offenders on its web site. MySpace will taps Sentinel for technology to block convicted sex offenders from accessing its online networking web site, using state and federal databases for identification. Userplane Gets Win At OkCupid
Santa Monica-based Userplane, a provider of online instant messaging applications, said this morning that OkCupid, an online dating site, has selected the firm's Webmessenger instant messaging and chat tool. The site will use Userplane's tools as part of its service. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Userplane is a subsidiary of AOL.

Axon Solutions Buys Zytalis
Irvine-based Zytalis, a systems integrator for SAP, has been acquired by Axon Solutions, a New Jersey-based SAP consulting firm. Financial terms were not disclosed. Zytalis provides implementation of SAP products for the high tech, industrial machinery, wholesale distribution, and engineering and construction industry.
