Iapyx Medical Gets $9M
San Diego-based Iapyx Medical said Thursday afternoon that it has raised $9M in funding from Tavistock Life Sciences. The funding will be used to support product development, marketing and sales. Iapyx said that the funding brings the company's total raised to more than $12M. Iapyx also said it was rebranding the firm in conjunction with the funding. Iapyx was formerly known as Medical Device Group. Iapyx is developing medical devices to reduce hospital-acquired infections.

TelePacific Buys Arrival Communications
Los Angeles-based TelePacific Communications, a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), said Wednesday that the firm has acquired Arrival Communications, a provider of voice and data services in Central California. Financial terms were not disclosed. TelePacific is backed by Investcorp, Hillman Company, GE Capital and Arena Capital Partners, among others.

Gateway Expands Board of Directors
Irvine-based Gateway said today that it is expanding its board of directors, after reaching an agreement with Firebrand Partners, which is leading an investor group that owns approximately 10.7% of the firm's stock. Gateway said that Scott Galloway, a clinical associate professor at NYU's Stern School of Business, has been appointed to the board of directors of the firm, as part of a deal with the investor group. CaminoSoft Looks For Buyer
Westlake Village-based CaminoSoft, a firm that provides information lifecycle management and storage management software, said today that the firm is looking to "explore opportunities to enhance value". According to the company, the firm's board of directors is reviewing strategies to "maximize the inherent value of the company", terms typically used by firms looking to be acquired or to be merged with another company. MovieTickets.com Targets Kids
Los Angeles-based MovieTickets.com is targeting the younger set with a new web site, saying today that it has launched fun.movietickets.com, a kid-centric version of the firm's online movie ticketing web site. The new family friendly web site focuses on providing interactive games, content, and movies geared toward families and kids. Occam Adds Voice Over IP Support
Santa Barbara-based Occam Networks, a provider of telecommunications equipment based on Ethernet and IP networks, said today that it has added carrier-class support for the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). SIP is an industry standard for voice-over-IP calls. Occam said its latest software implements SIP, which is used to connect VoIP calls to POTS telephone networks.

Soapbox Mobile Signs Kaleidoscope Sports
San Diego-based mobile market firm Soapbox Mobile said Wednesday that it has signed on a new customer, Kaleidoscope Sports and Entertainment. Kaleidoscope provideds new media promotions to advertising clients. Kaleidoscope will tap Soapbox for mobile marketing. Soapbox develops mobile marketing campaigns, and is venture-backed by Equal Elements.

BandTel Ties Into VoIP PBX Provider
Newport Beach-based BandTel has tied into a provider of VoIP IP PBX technology, saying today that it has partnered with Plano, Texas-based Epygi Technologies. BandTel, which provides SIP Trunking services for connecting SIP equipment into the telecom network, said that Epygi's PBX hardware is now fully interoperable with its services. Epygi provides VoIP IP PBX hardware targeted at small and medium sizes businesses. BandTel's services are used to terminate VoIP to PSTN calls.
