Orexigen Therapeutics Files For IPO
San Diego-based Orexigen Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical firm focused on treatments of central nervous system disorders and obesity has filed for an IPO. The firm said Tuesday afternoon in a filing with the SEC that it is looking to raise up to $86.25M in an IPO on the Nasdaq Global Market under the symbol OREX. WaterHealth International Closes Series C
Lake Forest-based WaterHealth International said today that it has closed its Series C funding, adding $4M to the round. The latest investment was led by SAIL Venture Partners, and also included Plebys International LLC. The investment brings its total raised in its Series C to more than $11M. Snap Adds Image Search
Pasadena-based Perfect Market Technologies, operator of the Snap.com web search engine, said today that the company has rolled out a new visual search service. The new service shows preview images of web sites as part of web searches, similar to the firm's recently released web site preview features. The new web search capability shows a preview of web sites found in the search results, allowing users to decide if they'd like to visit a site. Vigilistics Ships Certified Food Safety Cleaning Product
Mission Viejo-based Vigilistics, an angel-backed company developing equipment for food safety, said this week that it has shipped a product for enforcing best practices in cleaning equipment used in food processing. The firm's product tracks plant cleaning and audits best practices in the dairy and food processing industry. The new product, the Vigilistics CIP Management Module, adds real-time analysis and notification of the process. The firm is funded by the Tech Coast Angels.

United Online Enhances Free Phone Service
Woodland Hills-based United Online said today that it has enhanced the firm's new disposable phone number service. United Online said that it has added embeddable voicemails, greater voicemail capacity, and graphics to its PrivatePhone service. That service allows anyone to create their own dispoable phone number for forwarding calls, taking messages, and also allows bloggers to capture and post reader voice comments.

Vmix, blinkx Partner On Video Search
San Francisco-based blinkx and San Diego-based VMIX said Monday that the two have partnered to add VMIX's user-generated slideshow and video content to the Blinkx video search engine. blinkx users will have access to all of VMIX's user-generated video content. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed. VMIX is backed by Enterprise Partners and Mission Ventures.

Jiggerbug.com Adds Audio Book On Tape
Hollywood-based online audio book retailer Jiggerbug.com has added physical audio book sales to its offerings, the firm said today. Jiggerbug, which provides a Netflix-like audio book rental business, said it is adding hard copy audio book sales to its mix. The new sales component is in addition to its current online audio book download and audio book rental services.
