WiLinx Gets $15M
Los Angeles-based WiLinx, a semiconductor firm developing all-CMOS UWB technology for the WiMedia market, said today that it has raised $15M in funding in a Series C investment. The funding came from Third Wave Ventures. Third Wave is an existing investor in the firm.

Althea Technologies Finds $23M
San Diego-based Althea Technologies has raised $23M in a Series C funding, the firm said Tuesday. The round came from Telegraph Hill Partners. Althea is developing technologies and services for pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. The firm said the funding will go towards aggressive expansion plans.

Warner Hedges, Creates Combo HD Disc
Burbank-based Warner Home Video said today that it has unveiled a new high definition disk that combines rival HD format HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The firm said at CES that the new "Total Hi Def" disc will support both formats, and is designed to eliminate consumer confusion between the formats. HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc have been locked in a battle for market share in the emerging high definition video disc format market. MTV, Amp'd Partner On Mobile Programming
Los Angeles-based MVNO Amp'd Mobile and MTV Networks said this morning that the two companies are working together on an original, made-for-mobile series exclusively for Amp'd. The firms said that the new series will appear on Amp'd entertainment portal. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Amp'd provides a youth-oriented cell phone service, and as of Tuesday reports that it had over 100,000 subscribers at the end of 2006. Verizon Gives $500,000 For Ventura County Technology Center
Telecommunications firm Verizon has awarded $500,000 to Thousand Oaks-based Discovery Center for Science and Technology, a project to establish a science and technology museum in Ventura County. Verizon said that the grant will go towards the creation of of "Verizon Community Clubhouse" to feature cutting-edge technology developed in Ventura County. The Discovery Center is in the midst of fundraising for the $45M center.

Tanner Upgrades Mixed Signal Design Tool
Monrovia-based Tanner EDA, a provider of software tools for analog and mixed-signal circuit design, has upgraded its schematic capture tool. The firm said yesterday that Tanner Tools has been upgraded to include faster import and export capabilities, faster performance, and other features. The tool is used by hardware designers for schematic capture, simulation, physical layout and verification of semiconductor designs.

Guidance Software Releases Forensics Software
Pasadena-based Guidance Software, a provider of digital forensics tools, has upgraded the firm's Encase software. The company said today that version 6 of the company's product now supports 64-bit operating systems, Unicode support, and other features. The firm's software is used by law enforcement firms to analyze evidence on computers hard drives nondestructively.

Kyriba Expands Board
San Diego-based cash and treasury management software firm Kyriba announced today that it has added a new director to its board. Kyriba has added Steve Pavlovich, former VP of Investor Relations at HP, to its board of directors. Pavlovich spent 30 years at Hewlett Packard, retiring in 2004. Kyriba is developing web-based, cash management tools for international companies.
