AOL Replaces Music Now With Napster
AOL and Los Angeles-based Napster said today that Napster will become the exclusive music provider to AOL Music, replacing AOL Music Now. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. AOL said it will migrate approximately 350,000 paid users of the firm's music download service to Napster, and promote Napster throughout the firm's music site. Napster is a provider of subscription-based music download services.

TriZetto Completes QCSI Acquisition
Newport Beach-based The TriZetto Group, a provider of technology for the healthcare payer market, said Thursday that it has completed its acquisition of Quality Care Solutions, Inc. The deal was worth approximately $130M. TriZetto announced the acquisition in September. QCSI is also a provider of healthcare payer software. TriZetto provides its software and services to national and regional health insurance plans, benefits administrators, and others.

MusicIP Releases Music Search Tools, New Services
Monrovia-based MusicIP, a provider of technology for music discovery and search, released a number of new features this week, including a new Acoustic Discovery service, a free music identification service, and tag fixing software for digital music files. MusicIP said that its new acoustic discovery service search engine will identify music similar to artists, albums, and tracks that users like, and can be integrated into any application. Spire Equity Becomes GroundWork
Camarillo-based Spire Equity, a firm focused on investing and accelerating early stage technology companies, said this week that it has changed its name to GroundWork Equity. The firm also said that it has added a new Los Angeles office and added Peter Cowen as a senior partner with the firm. Cowen was previously head of Peter Cowen & Associates, was co-founder of Data Voice Solutions, and is an angel investor.

Microsemi Forms New Mixed Signal Group, Appoints EVP
Irvine-based Microsemi, a manufacturer of analog and mixed signal integrated circuits, said this week that it has formed a new High Performance Analog Mixed Signal Group. The group will incorporate Microsemi's existing high performance analog mixed signal business plus the product lines from the firm's recent acquisition of Israeli firm PowerDsine. The firm also appointed a new Executive VP to head the group, Steven G. Litchfield. Litchfield has been at Microsemi since 2001.

Storix Upgrades Storage Software
San Diego-based Storix, a provider of backup and disaster recovery software, said this week that it has upgraded the firm's Storix System Backup Administrator product. The software provides backup and recovery of Linux and AIX systems. The software now supports Oracle database backup, remote management, a better GUI, and what the firm says is a major performance increase.

Linksys Names Sales VP
Irvine-based Linksys said this week that it has named Rod Keller as Vice President of the firm's worldwide sales organization. Linksys, which is a division of Cisco Systems, said that Keller will lead in developing channel strategies for the consumer and SMB market. Keller was most recently PResident and CEO of Augmentix Corporation. Linksys is a provider of VoIP, wireless and networking hardware.

BakBone Names VP
San Diego-based BakBone Software, a provider of backup software for the data storage market, said this week that it has named David Schneider as Vice President of the firm's Strategic Partner Group. Schneider was most recently at Coral Sea Holdings, and served as President and CEO of Sanrise, the storage services provider. Schneider will manage BakBone's OEM partner alliances.
