MaxLinear Finds $20M
Carlsbad-based MaxLinear, a fabless semiconductor firm developing communications ICs, has raised $20M in an unannounced round last quarter. The funding was disclosed in quarterly venture capital numbers from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the NVCA. MaxLinear lists U.S. Venture Partners, Mission Ventures, UMC Capital, and AsiaTech Management as investors in the firm.

Vertiflex Raises $20M For Spinal Devices
Carlsbad-based medical devices firm Vertiflex has raised $20M in a venture round from Aberdare Ventures, Alta Partners, and Morgenthaler Ventures, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers and the NVCA. The round has not been announced. According to Aberdare, Vertiflex is developing innovative spinal orthopedic devices for the most prevalent disorders of the spine. According to a U.S. FDA database filing the firm is developing a pedicle screw system for spinal surgery.

VMIX Partners With Tribune On User-Generated Content
San Diego-based VMIX Media said today that it is in a new agreement with Tribune Interactive to provide its technology for user-generated content management. VMIX said that it will provide the technology to the Tribune's properties, which includes online sites for the LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Newsday, and other newspaper web sites. Broadcom Expands Wireless IC Portfolio
Irvine-based Broadcom said today that it has rolled out new silicon for the Bluetooth market. Broadcom announced two new single-chip products targeted at the wireless handset market. The new chips are targeted at high-end basic Bluetooth handsets, and feature proprietary voice enhancement and sound technology to reduce noise.

eEye Adds Anti-Virus Protection
Aliso Viejo-based eEye Digital Security said today that it has added anti-virus protection into the latest version of its security software. eEye said it is combining its own anti-virus technology with technology from Norman Data Defense for the feature. eEye develops vulnerability management software targeted at enterprise IT networks.

Vitesse Shows Crosspoint Switch
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor said today that it is making a new crosspoint switch available. The new chip is used by hardware manufacturers to design multi-gigabit data transmission systems and backplanes. The VSC3304 provides 8.5 Gbps in a 4x4 crosspoint switch. The component is used in such industries as high speed networking and storage networking to connect devices.

Parasoft Upgrades SOA Test Software
Monrovia-based Parasoft has upgraded the firm's SOA testing software. Parasoft said its new Parasoft SOAtest 5.0 tool adds policy enforcement, integration with BEA Aqualogic Enterprise, and regression testing features. The software is used by developers to test their SOA software projects for software defects.

Bluebeam Upgrades Doc Management Software
Pasadena-based Bluebeam Software has upgraded the firm's PDF editing software. Bluebeam, whose software is used by architectual and other firms to mark up designs, said that the latest release is targeted at architecture, engineering, and construction, government, legal, and financial customers. The new version now supports document comparison, redaction, markup summary reports, and headers and footers, among other features.
