Internet Brands Buys SlowTrav.com
Los Angeles-based Internet Brands has acquired SlowTrav.com, a web site focused on planning of European vacations, Internet Brands announced Wednesday. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. SlowTrav provides information about European destination sites, where travelers are looking to stay in one place for one week or more. Smith Micro Buys Ecutel Systems
Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro Software said today that it is acquiring Ecutel Systems, a provider of enterprise mobility software. The deal is worth $8M in cash. Smith Micro said that Ecutel complements the firm's enterprise connectivity strategy. Smith Micro will integrate Ecutel's software into its QuickLink Mobile Enterprise product. The deal is expected to close in February of 2007.

Fonality Gets Investment From Intel
Los Angeles-based Fonality has received an investment from Intel Capital, in a Series C round worth $7M, the company said late Tuesday night. Fonality said that both Intel and existing investor Azure Capital Partners participated in the investment round. Fonality is a developer of business phone systems based on the Asterisk open source PBX package. Fonality said the proceeds of the financing will be used to increase product innovation and go towards growing its channel presence.

Proacta Adds $35M In Series B
San Diego-based Proacta, a biotechnology firm developing cancer drugs, said today that it has added $35M in a Series B financing. The new funding will be used to take its lead compound into the next phase of clinical development, as well as to go towards discovery and development of additional compounds. The round was led by Clarus Ventures, and also included Delphi Ventures, Alta Partners, GBS Venture Partners (Australia), No 8 Ventures and Endeavour iCap, Genentech and Roche.

Intuit Completes Digital Insight Acquisition
Intuit said today that it has completed its acquisition of Calabasas-based Digital Insight. The total purchase price was approximately $1.33B. Digital Insight was a provider of online banking tools for credit unions and other financial instutitions. Intuit said it will be targeting the small business sector with an offering from Intuit and Digital Insight focused on interactive financial management. Ticketmaster Ties Into iTunes
West Hollywood-based Ticketmaster said Tuesday that it will offer music fans a free song on iTunes with every concert ticket purchased on its web site, and will also offer opportunities to buy concert tickets ahead of the general public for fans who pre-order albums. Ticketmaster said that the tie into Apple's popular iTunes music download service will kick off during the summer concert season.

GloNav Ships GPS Chip
Newport Beach-based GloNav, a semiconductor firm developing global positioning system chips, announced a new assisted GPS chip today. GloNav said that its new chip is targeted at the cellular handset and mobile consumer electronic device markets, and offers an ultra low-power, single-chip A-GPS solution. Biggerboat Adds VP of Sales
Beverly Hills-based BiggerBoat, which is developing search and discovery engines for the entertainment industry, said that it has hired a Vice President of Sales. Jon Guynn has joined the company in the position. Guynn was most recently at JM Northern Media, and was also publisher of Airplay Monitor. Biggerboat is venture backed by Zone Ventures, First Round Capital, and Draper Associates.

Ixia Launches Mobile IPv6 Test Suite
Calabasas-based Ixia said today that it has launched a new test suite aimed at Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). The new test, part of Ixia's IxANVL testing product, provides testing of the next generation IPv6 protocol on mobile networks. The new test suite will be available in Q2. Ixia is a developer of test systems used by the networking industry.

Vitesse Co-founder Leaves for VC
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor said today that Ira Deyhimy, VP of Business Development and a co-founder of the company, has left to pursue opportunities in venture capital and private equity. Vitesse said Deyhimy will provide business and technology consulting services to the venture capital community and emerging technology companies. Vitesse is provider of high speed semiconductors for the communications, networking, and storage market.
