MP3tunes To Offer Unlimited Storage
San Diego-based MP3tunes, the online music storage service headed by MP3.com founder Michael Robertson, is set to announce Monday that the firm will now provide unlimited storage and bandwidth to users of the service. MP3tunes allows users to store their online music and access that music from a PC, phone, and other devices. The firm's storage was previously limited to 1Gb for free. Napster Sees Increase In Subscribers, Adds Ross Levinsohn To Board
Los Angeles-based Napster reports that it now has 566,000 paid subscribers to the firm's music download service, saying yesterday in its quarterly earnings that it added 48,000 subscribers to its service in the quarter. The numbers include university and Japanese subscribers. The firm also said that it has added Ross Levinsohn to its board of directors. Optimer Pharmaceuticals Prices IPO
San Diego-based Optimer Pharmaceuticals said today that it is offering 7,000,000 shares of its common stock at a price of $7.00 per share in its IPO. Optimer is listing its stock on the NASDAQ Global Market under the symbol "OPTR", in an IPO underwritten by Piper Jaffray & Co., Jefferies & Company, JMP Securities, and Rodman & Renshaw. Domain Adds Tobira Therapeutics To Portfolio
San Diego-based Domain Associates, a life sciences focused venture capital firm, has added new firm Tobira Therapeutics to its portfolio, socalTECH has learned. According to Domain's web site, it has added Tobira to its portfolio. Tobira is developing antiviral products. The investment has not yet been announced.

Kintera Names President
San Diego-based Kintera said Thursday that it has appointed a new president. Richard LaBarbera has been named President of the firm, having previously been COO of the company. Kintera has previously served at Sybase. Harry Gruber continues on as Kintera's CEO and on its board. Kintera is a provider of online software for managing nonprofit operations.

Streamload Names Harr As CEO
San Diego-based Streamload said this week that it has named Patrick Harr as CEO of the firm. Harr joins Streamload from Enterprise Venture Capital, where he was Entrepreneur-In-Residence. Harr has also served as CEO of Preventsys, and served at McDATA, Sanera Systems, CacheFlow, and Novell. Streamload is a venture backed provider of online data storage services for digital media.

Apricorn Releases DVD Drive
Poway-based Apricorn, a provider of personal storage products, said this week that it has released a new portable optical drive incorporating the LightScribe direct disc labeling system. Apricorn's new EZ Writer DVD LS is a 12-ounce, portable optical drive with dual layer recording. The new DVD writer also includes ability to inscribe designs into their DVDs, and support for USB 2.0.

LogicalApps Signs TriZetto Group
Irvine-based LogicalApps, a provider of software for risk and compliance management, said Thursday that the firm has signed on The TriZetto Group as a customer. The TriZetto Group will use LogicalApps' products to automate internal controls and for corporate governance and compliance. The TriZetto Group is a provider of technology services and products for the healthcare industry.

AeroVironment Gets Win With Royal Australian Navy
Monrovia-based AeroVironment, a developer of unmanned aircraft systems, said Thursady that the firm's UAVs have successfully completed a sea trial for the Royal Australian Navy. The Australian Navy is looking to add the firm's SUAS systems for its Armidale class patrol boats. AeroVironment is a developer of unmanned aircraft used by the U.S. Department of Defense for reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition.
