Activision, Dolby Partner
Santa Monica-based Activision said today that it is partnering with Dolby Laboratories on Dolby's surround sound technology. Activision said it will ensure its audio production facilities are optimized for Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Activision currenly includes Dolby Digital 5.1 optimized surround sound in a number of its games, including Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox and other titles. Activision is a developer, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment.

Qualcomm Appoints Legal VP
San Diego-based Qualcomm announced Thursday afternoon that it has appointed a new Senior Vice President and Legal Counsel for the firm's legal team. Qualcomm has hired Carol C. Lam, former United States Attorney, to the position, where she will help manage and direct the firm's worldwide litigation. Lam was most recently United States attorney for the Southern District of California.

AVANIR Hires Accounting Head
Aliso Viejo-based AVANIR Pharmaceuticals, which is developing and commercializing candidates for CNS, cardiovascular, inflammation, and infection disease, said this week that it has hired Martin J. Sturgeon as VP and Chief Accounting Officer. Sturgeon will oversee the firm's accounting practices and policies. Sturgeon joins from financial consultantcy DLC, Inc.

Emulex Ships HBAs For HP Integrity
Costa Mesa-based Emulex said Thursday that its line of host bus adapters is now shipping for HP's Integrity rx6600 and rx3600 servers. The maker of storage devices said that its single- and dual-channel 4 Gb/s adapters have been qualified for the HP servers and HP's StorageWorks storage arrays.

Global Analytics Taps Fair Isaac For VP
San Diego-based Global Analytics, a provider of technology for fraud detection and other areas, said Thursday it has hired Ted Crooks as Vice President of Business Development. Crooks was most recently VP of Global Fraud Solutions for Fair Isaac Corporation, and has also served at HNC Software.

MadCap Ships Screen Capture Tool
San Diego-based MadCap Software, a developer of software for help authoring, said this week that it has launched a screen capture and graphics editing program, MadCap Capture 2.0. The new software will become part of a suite of tools that include content authoring and software simulation. MadCap's software is used for authoring help systems, sales and marketing systems, training, technical support, and tutorials.

Experian Interactive Expands Operations
Irvine-based Experian Interactive said Thursday afternoon that it is expanding its operations in both Southern and Northern California. Experian said that it has doubled its Santa Monica facility to 64,500 square feet, and has added a second office at that location to accommodate additional space for ClassesUSA.com. The firm also has opened an R&D operation in Northern California. Experian operates LowerMyBills.com, PriceGrabber.com, ClassesUSA.com, and Experian Consumer Direct, and employs more (More info...)
