Nutricate Raises $750K
Santa Barbara-based Nutricate announced Friday that it has raised more than half of a $1.5M Series A funding, from Numenor Ventures and angel investors. Nutricate provides personalized nutritional information on food order receipts, and is looking to provide consumers with nutritional data on food they order at restaurants, schools, and hospitals. The firm's receipts provide nutritioonal information, printed at the point of sale.

Chumby Gets Venture Investment
La Jolla-based Chumby, a developer of open, hackable, wireless electronic clocks, has received an investment from O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal was announced as part of the formation of O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, a new venture capital firm based in the Bay Area. Chumby is headed by Steve Tomlin, former VP at America Online.

FarStone Launches Drive Imaging Product
Irvine-based FarStone Technology, a provider of storage software, said this week that it has launched a new disaster recovery product which provides drive imaging for system builder and integrators. The firm's new DriveClone System Recovery Edition provides drive level cloning capability and is targeted at system builder and system integrators for resolving customer service issues.

Gateway Appoints Board Member
Irvine-based Gateway appointed a new board member this week, saying that Dave Russell of Avalon Energy will join the company's board of directors. Russell is executive vice president of Avalon Capital Group, which is owned by Ted Waitt, co-founder of Gateway. Russell has also served as General Manager of Gateway's digital television group. Russell was appointed to the board as a part of an agreement with Firebrand Partners. Gateway is a manufacturer of personal computers.

Smith Micro Signs Publishing Deal
Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro Software announced this week that it is in a publishing agreement with KMT Software, a provider of software for Microsoft Office. Smith Micro will distribute KMT's OfficeReady 4.0 Professional, a package for small businesses for creating marketing documents, business forms, and financial spreadsheets.
