ThisNext.com Adds Blog Tool
Los Angeles-based Web 2.0 firm ThisNext has added a new content creation tool targeted at bloggers, saying Wednesday that it has added a new "BlogIt" tool to allow bloggers and social networkers to post product reviews to their site. The firm said that the new tool to create personalized HTML code for copying and pasting onto social networking and blog sites. The new tool creates grid format, clickable displays of products that link to ThisNext product items.

Eventful Adds Location Based Services
San Diego-based Eventful has rolled out a mobile version of the firm's services, saying this week that it has released a widget which will allow users to discover events near them. The Eventful widget runs on the WHERE Mobile GPS platform, and uses GPS information to locate nearby events, maps, and directions to those events. The GPS capability comes from uLocate Communications, which also powers LBS capabilities in Helio's Buddy Beacon and MapQuests's Find Me applications.

Slacker Launches Online Radio Site
San Diego-based Slacker, an online radio startup backed by Sevin Rosen, Austin Ventures, and Mission Ventures, has launched a beta of the firm's site today. The firm, which provides personal music radio stations available via the Internet and satellite, offers both free and premium versions of the service. The firm is headed by Dennis Mudd, former CEO of MusicMatch. According to reports in TechCrunch, the company has raised $13.5M in venture capital.

Tragara Pharmaceuticals Raises $40M
San Diego-based Tragara Pharmaceuticals announced this morning that it is developing therpaties for the treatment of cancer and inflammatory disease, and has closed $40M in a Series A funding. The new company said that it formally launched operations in January. Investors in the firm include Domain Associates, ProQuest Investments, Morgenthaler Ventures, Oxford Bioscience Partners, and Mitsubishi International Corporation. Tragara's management team comes from Cabrellis Pharmaceuticals.

j2, CallWave Settle Patent Lawsuit
Los Angeles-based j2 Global Communications and Santa Barbara-based CallWave announced today that the firms have agreed to resolve j2 Global's patent infringement lawsuit against CallWave. j2 has granted Callwave with a non-exclusive patent license to CallWave, and CallWave will pay j2 Global a $4M license and a running royalty of 10% on its fax services. Both firms provide electronic FAX services over the Internet.

Thomson Adds Forensic Marking Solutions For Set Top Boxes
Burbank-based Thomson announced today that it is unveiling a new forensic marking solution targeted at the set-top box market. The firm's new NexGuard product is designed for manufacturers of set-top boxes, and provides watermarking of broadcast content delivered via IPTV, satellite, cable, or other broadcasts. The watermarking encodes unique identification information into the video stream, which allows content owners to pinpoint the source of illegally redistributed content.

DivX Signs CBC
San Diego-based DivX, a provider of video encoding and decoding products, said today that it is in a deal with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to bring CBC content to the DivX online video sharing site. DivX will feature a CBC channel on its Stage6 video sharing site, which will include such content as interview with Josh Groban, news reports from CBC News, and other content. Brickfish Partners With YouthNoise
San Diego-based Brickfish is in a partnership with YouthNoise, an Internet social entwork site focused on politics. According to YouthNoise, it used Brickfish's platform to allow its users to view, rate, and review user-generated entries in a citizen journalism contest. Brickfish provides a platform used by marketers and advertisers to manage user-generated content.

Ubiquity TV Launches Peer to Peer Video Software
Ubiquity TV, a new company which is based in Newport Beach with operations in Silver Spring, Maryland, announced today that it has made a beta available of the firm's user-generated TV software platform. The company is targeting the distribution and creation of live, broadcast-quality television through its anyON software. Ubiquity TV is looking to provide peer-to-peer distribution of user-generated video content.

iStor Upgrades Storage Management Softare
Irvine-based iStor Networks, a manufacturer of network storage controllers and storage systems, announced today that it has released an upgrade to the firm's storage management software. iStor's GigaStor Version 1.4.0 product adds support for Apple Macintosh configuration, enhanced administration and diagnostics, and multiple IP addresses. The software is used to manage iStor's network storage and iSCSI storage products.

Practical Instruments Becomes Soliant Energy
Pasadena-based solar concentrator firm Practical Instruments announced Tuesday that the firm has changed its name to Soliant Energy. Practical Instruments made the announcement at a solar power conference in Spain. Soliant is backed by Nth Power, Rincon Venture Partners, Rockport Capital Partners, and Trinity Ventures.
