CalAmp Acquires Division of AirIQ
Oxnard, California-based CalAmp, a provider of wireless communications products, announced this morning that it is acquiring the Vehicle Finance division of AirIQ, in a deal worth $19M in cash. AirIQ's Lake Forest-based Vehicle Finance division sells Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) and cellular-based wireless asset tracking products. Move Adds Vista Desktop Widgets
Westlake Village-based Realtor.com, which is run by Move Inc., has jumped into the desktop widget world, with the introduction of a new search gadget. Realtor.com said Thursday that it has rolled out a Realtor.com Search Gadget for Windows Vista. The new search tool allows consumers to load software which will automatically search for homes based on criteria such as location, price, and number of bedrooms. New homes found will popup in the Windows Vista sidebar in a slide show.

Fetch, Zvents Partner On Event Search
Los Angeles-based Fetch Technologies is in a deal with event search company Zvents, to include its artificial intelligence technology into Zvents platform, the firm said Thursday. According to Fetch Technologies, Zvents will use its artificial intelligence-based software agents for content extraction. Zvents provides its event listing services to local media outlets and newspapers.

Qualcomm, Nortel In Cross Licensing Agreement
Qualcomm, the San Diego-based firm behind the CDMA wireless standard, said Thursday that it has inked a patent and product agreement with Nortel. The firms said Thursday that Nortel will be granted a license to manufacture and sell components for use in CDMA subscriber devices. The agreement includes a royalty, and is an expansion of a prior agreement between the firms. Specific financial terms were not disclosed by the companies.

Coradiant Taps Hedayati For Executive
San Diego-based Coradiant has added Ali Hedayati as vice president of business development, the company reported Thursday. Hedayati has served as entrepreneur-in-residence for Enterprise Partners Venture Capital, CEO of Kalon Semiconductor, and also as general manager of Intel's wireless products division. SpaceX Names VP
El Segundo-based SpaceX, the startup which is developing orbital launch vehicles, has named a new VP, saying Thursday that it has appointed Dr. Jeff Ward as Vice President of Avionics, Guidance, and Control. Dr. Ward has prior experience managing small satellite programs at Surrey Satellite Technology Limited, for customers that include the U.S. Air Force and ESA. SpaceX said that Ward will be responsible for the firm's engineering team developing avionics hardware and software.

Emulex Ships Linux Driver For Red Hat
Emulex, the Costa Mesa-based manufacturer of storage hardware and host bus adapters, said Thursday that its Linux driver for its LightPulse Host Bus Adapter (HBA) products is now shipping as part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. The inclusion of the firm's drivers means that its customers will be able to immediately run Emulex products with Xen 3.0 server virtualization, clustering and multipath supports, and management features.

Gateway Adds Entry Level Server
Gateway, the Orange County-based PC manufacturer, said Thursday that it has added a new entry level tower PC based on AMD's processors. The Irvine-based firm announced the Gateway E-9232T Thursday, an entry level server targeted at small and medium-sized businesses. The new server can either use a dual-core AMD Opteron 1000 processor or AMD's Athlon 64 Processor 3500+, and also includes lights-out management, KVM support, RAID, and hot swappable redundant power supplies.
