Avery Dennison Acquires Paxar For $1.3B
Pasadena-based Avery Dennison said Thursday that it will acquire Paxar Corporation, a manufacturer of handheld labelers, RFID technology, and other products in a deal worth $1.34B in cash. Both publicly held firms provide supply chain management, shipment tracking, labeling, and other products for manufacturers and retailers. Avery Dennison will pay $30.50 in cash for each share of Paxar. JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., is financing the deal.

Kyocera Teams On Wireless Wallet Trial
San Diego-based Kyocera Wireless and Celluar South, a wireless service provider, said today that the two are collaborating on a multi-city consumer trial which will enable consumers to use their cell phones as a digital credit card. The firms said that starting in May, consumers in Memphis, Tennesee and Jackson, Mississippi will be able to use Kyocera cell phones to make payments and purchases, through a wireless reader.

Yahoo Names VP
Yahoo! said this morning that it has appointed Reggie Davis as Vice President of Marketplace Quality, within Yahoo!'s Burbank-based Advertiser & Publisher Group. Davis will be responsible for deliver higher quality advertising for Yahoo!'s customers. Davis has been at Yahoo! since January of 2000, and previously managed the firm's click fraud litigation. Yahoo operates its display and search listings marketplace in Burbank.

Amp'd Mobile, Motorola Unveil Phone
Los Angeles-based Amp'd Mobile and Motorola announced this morning that the two have unveiled a version of Motorola's MOTO Q phone for the Amp'd service. the MOTO Q, Amp'd Edition will be available to users of Amp'd MObile's entertainment and youth-focused cell phone service. Amp'd already offers a version of Motorola's MOTORAZR phone as aprt of the service.
