Cohu Buys Tandberg Television AVS
Poway-based Cohu, a supplier of test equipment for the semiconductor industry, microwave communications and closed circuit television equipment, said today that its subsidiary, Broadcast Microwave Services Inc. (BMS), has acquired Tandberg Television AVS GmbH for $8.3M in cash. Tandberg Television AVS develops, designs, manufactures, and sells digital transmitters, receivers and microwave communications systems. According to Cohu, AVS had sales of approximately $7M in 2006.

Venture Backed IPOs Raise $1.2B in Q1
Dow Jones is reporting today that U.S. venture-backed companies raised $1.2B in thirteen initial public offerings in the first quarter. The amount raised was double the amount raised a year ago. According to the Quarterly Liquidity Report from Dow Jones VentureOne, the number of IPOs was the msot completed in a single quarter for the IT category since the third quarter of 2004. The report also tracked merger and acquisition, saying 95 M&A transactions were completed in the first quarter of 2007, (More info...)

eEye Rolls Free Product
Aliso Viejo-based eEye Digital Security announced this morning that it has introduced a new, free consumer edition of its products. The firm said that it is releasing a version of its Blink Personal Internet Security product for free for one year for personal or home office use. The software offers anti-virus, spyware and adware detection, identity theft prevention, intrusion prevention, and other capabilities. eEye said the Windows-based software is available immediately for download from its w (More info...)

Advanced Medical Optics Completes IntraLase Acquisition
Santa Ana-based Advanced Medical Optics said today that it has completed its acquisition of Irvine-based IntraLase. The $808M cash deal was originally announced in January. IntraLase is a provider of LASIK technology used for vision correction. AMO provides intraocular lenses and other related products. Both firms are based in Orange County.

International Rectifier Completes Business Sale
El Segundo-based International Rectifier announced today that it has completed the sale of its Power Control Systems (PCS) business to Vishay Intertechnology. The $290M cash deal includes IR's discrete planar MOSFET, discrete diodes and rectifiers, discrete thyristors, and multi-chip modules product lines. International Rectifier is a provider of semiconductors for power management.

Strix Systems Deploys In UK
Calabasas-based Strix Systems said today that it has deployed its systems in the UK in the city of Milton Keynes, as part of a city-wide wireless mesh broadband network. Strix said that its products are being deployed by partner Briteyellow in the firm's central business districts, which will cover 40 sq. miles of the city center. Strix is a provider of WiFI equipment used to network wireless users.

SOA Software Partners With Red Hat
Los Angeles-based SOA Software has partnered with leading open source provider Red Hat, in a deal to provide SOA capability to Red Hat's JBoss middleware. SOA Software said today that it is partnering with Red Hat to deploy its SOA Software Service Manager and WorkBench products with Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise Middleware product.
