BrickBits.com Takes On Home Costs
Santa Barbara-based Whitestone Research, a firm which provides facility cost forecasting to companies and the government, has launched a new, free web service called BrickBits.com, the firm said today. The new online service allows consumers to input information about their homes and get a complete estimate of home costs, including utility bills, repairs, and services. Break.com, Endemol In Content Deal
Los Angeles-based Break.com, an online entertainment web site focused on men, and Endemol USA, the producer behind "Deal or No Deal", "Big Brother" and "Fear Factor", said today they are in an original content deal. Endemol will product original content from Break.com. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Break.com will feature "Record Breakers," a new original series for the site. Break.com's features editor-selected, user-generated videos, computer games, and other content.

H2O Audio Adds $5M
San Diego-based H2O Audio, a provider of waterproof housings for Apple iPod and other media players, said today that it has closed a $5M Series C funding round. The funding came from Steelpoint Capital Partners. H2O Audio's waterproof products are used by action sports enthusiasts, including water skiers, divers, and surfers, and are distributed through retail outlets like CompUSA, Fry's Electronics, and Apple Stores.

NextWave Wireless To Acquire IPWireless For $100M
San Diego-based NextWave Wireless said today that it is in a definitive agreement to acquire San Bruno-based IPWireless, a developer of TD-CDMA network equipment and subscriber terminals. The deal is worth $100M, including $25M in cash and $75M in stock. The deal also includes up to $135M in earnout based on revenue milestones. NextWave Wireless is a provider of mobile broadband products.

IR Sees Accounting Issues
El Segundo-based International Rectifier is reporting this morning that a number of its quarterly financial statements should no longer be relied upon, based on an independent investigation by its Audit Committee. The maker of mixed signal ICs said that it found accounting irregularities at a foreign subsdiary, affecting its financial statements for the quarters ended December 31, 2006, September 30, 2006, March 31, 2006, December 31, 2005 and September 30, 2005, and for the year ended June 30, (More info...)

Central Desktop Expands Project Management Software
Pasadena-based Central Desktop has expanded its online project management software, waying that its newest release targets corporate intranets. Central Desktop, which delivers its software as a hosted online service, said that its Sprint 2007 release is targeted for use by company subscribers, and includes a company directory, company calendar, and other features. VMIX In Deal With Union Tribune
San Diego-based VMIX Media is in a deal with Union-Tribune Publishing, publisher of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the firm announced this morning. VMIX Media will provide technology for video uploads, media management, and community tools on the San Diego paper's online web site. The VMIX tools will be used for user-contributed reporting and content, including video, photos, and comments. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

WD Announces New Hard Drive Line
Lake Forest-based Western Digital, a maker of hard drives, said today that it has introduced a new hard drive family it is targeting for the audio and video markets. WD said that its new 3.5-inch WD AV hard drives are specifically targeted at video recording OEMs. The new drives will range from 80 GB to 500 GB and will be available through distribution.
