Comcast Buys Fandango
Cable provider Comcast said Wednesday that it has reached an agreement to acquire Los Angeles-based Fandango, an online site that provides movie information, showtimes, and tickets. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to Comcast, it will launch Fancast.com, a new online entertainment destination in connection with the deal. Fandango is backed by Accretive Technology Partners, Technology Crossover Ventures, and theater chains. The deal is expected to close in Q2. Banc of Ame (More info...)

Qualcomm, Amp'd Mobile Launch Data Services In Canada
San Diego-based Qualcomm and Los Angeles-based Amp'd Mobile said today that they have launched new wireless data services based on Qualcomm's BREW solution in Canada. According to Qualcomm, the launch of Amp'd Mobile's services March 14 in Canada is the first commercial deployment of its BREW services in Canada. Qualcomm's BREW products provide wireless data capabilities to mobile operators and developers.

BuzzDash Gets Users
BuzzDash, a new, Los Angeles-based startup in the social answers and polling space, said today that it has logged its millionth vote. The firm said that it launched its service in February, and allows people to vote on any topic or issue. The user generated community web site allows users to ask for opinions on any topic and vote on polls and surveys. The firm competes against other social voting startups like SodaHead and MegaBuzz.

QLogic Gets Win At HP With Storage Router Product
Aliso Viejo-based QLogic has scored a win at HP for a new storage router, the firm said today. QLogic said that it has released the HP StorageWorks IP Distance Gateway, an intelligent storage router used by enterprises to connect storage area networks over WAN connections. The new device is based on QLogic's SANbox 6142, and is qualified for use with HP's Storageworks arrays and software. Break.com, blinkx Partner On Video Search
San Francisco-based blinkx and Los Angeles-based Break.com are in a new content partnership, blinkx announced today. blinkx said that it will index and transcribe Break's user generated and professionally produced video clips in its video search engine. Break.com operates an online service focused at men, featuring viral and user generated videos and other content.

Illumina Consolidates Connecticut Site
San Diego-based Illumina, a provider of genetics analysis tools for the life sciences industry, said today it is consolidating its operations in Wallingford, Connecticut into its San Diego facilities. The site was part of the company's acquisition of CyVera in 2005. The firm said that all manufacturing and development at the site will be continued in San Diego.

Move Launches How-To Guides
Westlake Village-based Move, which operates the online Move.com web site for consumers, said it is launching new how-to guides targeted at first time home buyers, remodelers, and others. The new content is targeted at walking consumers step-by-step through common issues such as buying a home, remodeling, and renting. The new how to guides also include companion blogs.
