Michael Robertson Launches MP3 Store
Michael Robertson, founder of, has launched a new company focused on selling MP3 format albums and CDs. Robertson said Thursday that San Diego-based AnywhereCD will offer both MP3 albums and traditional CDs, and will include thousands of albums from popular artists, including albums from Madonna, Prince, Green Day, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The new service offers one price that includes both a CD and MP3 format albums, with lower prices for MP3 only albums.

Phenomenex Buys Two Companies
Torrance-based Phenomenex, a firm that develops chromatography products for the separation, analysis and purification of pharmaceuticals, said Wednesday that it has acquired two companies in Italy and Denmark. Phenomenex said that it has acquired Bologna-based Chemtek Analytica S.R.L., a subsidiary of Labservice Analytica S.R.L., and privately-held SupWare, headquartered in Hilleroed, Denmark. Financial terms were not disclosed. Both firms are partners of Phenomenex.

Language Weaver Partners With Translation Firm
Los Angeles-based Language Weaver and Massachusetts-based Idiom Technologies announced this morning that the two companies are in a strategic marketing and technology integration agreement. Language Weaver, which provides software for automated language translation, will work with Idiom's hosted translation management software to automate translation workflows. Idiom's products are used by companies to localize large volumes of content, including web sites and applications, for enterprises.

Sony Online Appoints VP
San Diego-based Sony Online Entertainment, which operates the popular online multiplayer game EverQuest and other titles, said Wednesday that it has named David D. Christensen as Vice President of Business Development and International Operations. Christensen will be based in Sony's new Los Angeles Studio. Christensen was most recently at IGE, and has also served at Vivendi Games.

Capstone Adds Distributor
Chatsworth-based Capstone Turbine, a manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, said Thursday that it has signed on a new distributor. The firm said it signed on E-Finity Corporation for the Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic regions. E-finity will distribute Capstone's products to Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Southern New Jersey.

Emulex Expands Product Offerings
Costa Mesa-based Emulex said Wednesday that it has added two new product offerings, including a new storage switch and SAS I/O controllers. The products are used by storage system manufacturers in designing their own products. The new products include a new embedded SAS I/O controller, and an embedded Fibre Channel switch product. Among the enhancements to the Emulex embedded Fibre Channel switch product are support for per-port speed settings and native SATA disk drive attachments.

Amgen Loses CFO, Delays Earnings
Thousand Oaks-based Amgen lost its CFO Wednesday, and said that it is delaying its earnings to include results of a clinical trial. Amgen CFO Richard Nanula is leaving the company, and will be replaced by Robert Bradway, who was most recently Vice President, Operations Strategy. Bradway has also served at Morgan Stanley as an investment banker.
