Emotive Communications Raises $7.7M
Encino-based Emotive Communications has raised $7.7M in a venture capital round, the firm said this week. The round came from D.E. Shaw Group, Bertelsmann Digital Investments, Warner Music Group, and angel investors. Emotive is developing an interactive ringtone entertainment product, which connects to both mobile phones and VoIP services like Skype.

Circuit City, Napster Launch Digital Music Service
Circuit City, the electronics retailer, said today that it has launched a new, digital music service based on Napster. The new service, Circuit City + Napster, will launch at the end of the month. According to Circuit City, the new digital music service will be available for $14.95 per month for unlimited listening, and will be offered through Circuit City stores nationwide and through its online web site. Overland Cuts Staff, Executives
San Diego-based Overland announced this morning that it is cutting its employee workforce by 14 percent, in a restructuring of the firm. Overland has laid off 54 employees, as the company looks to return to profitability. The firm said that it expects to save approximately $5.5M annually from the reductions, and will spend $735,000 on severance. Among an executive shuffle, the firm said its VP of Worldwide Marketing, Christine Huff, will be leaving the company.

DivX, MoboVivo Partner On Content
San Diego-based DivX has partnered with MoboVivo, a television producer, to make MoboVivo's programs available in DivX format. According to the firms, several hundred hours of travel, history, nature, science, biography, and cooking television programs from MoboVivo will be bundled with DivX certified electronics devices sold Worldwide. MoboVivo produces television programming in Canada. DivX develops video compression/decompression software.

Move Launches Green Push
Westlake Village-based Move has announced three new initiatives focused on green homes, to coincide with Earth Day. The firm said Thursday that it has added a new advice section, a blog, and green home builder classifications to the firm's sites. The new advice and blog sections are focused on creating environmentally-friendly homes, with articles on recycling and reuse, green building and remodeling, and other green topics. Smith Micro Ships Digital Media Recovery Tool
Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro Software said yesterday that it has begun shipping MediaRECOVER 4.0, a file recovery tool focused on digital media. The new software provides recovery of pictures, music, and other data from memory cards, thumb drives, and digital film. Among the capabilities of the Mac and PC-compatible software are correction of data corruption and recovery of files which have been accidentally erased or reformatted. LogicalApps Upgrades Governance Software
Irvine-based LogicalApps has upgraded its governance software, saying earlier this week that its software now boasts enhancements for policy authoring, and continuous monitoring and reporting of policy violations. LogicalApps develops software used by companies for risk management and compliance reporting in enterprise applications.

Fonality Opens Online Store
Los Angeles-based Fonality, a developer of open source voice-over-IP software for the telecommunications market, said this week that it is opening up an online store which will provide all of the hardware products to design telephony systems for its resellers. The new store, the "trixbox Buyer's Club" will provide discounted telephone handsets and other products. Fonality develops a telephone PBX software product based on the open source Asterisk VoIP software.
