Pentadyne Looks For $100M IPO On AIM
Chatsworth-based Pentadyne Power, a developer of flywheel-based energy storage systems, is planning to float an IPO on the AIM, according to reports. The firm, which is venture backed by Accera Venture Partners, DTE Energy Ventures, Nth Power, Rustic Canyon Ventures, and Sempra Energy, markets its systems to companies looking to provide back-up power and power stablization. The Active Network Buys InfoSpherix
San Diego-based The Active Network is in a deal to purchase InfoSpherix Incorporated, a subsidiary of Spherix Incorporated, in a deal disclosed Thursday. Spherix, a Maryland-based firm, said that it would sell its InfoSpherix subsidiary, which contracts with the government to design, host, and operate park reservation services and public service contact centers. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Websense Acquires SurfControl For $400M
San Diego-based Websense said late Thursday that it is acquiring SurfControl PLC, a provider of web and email security, for approximately $400M. The deal calls for Websense SC Operations Limited, a subsidiary of Websense, to acquire all of the shares of SurfControl for 700 pence in cash. The deal is expected to close in four months, following regulatory approval in both the U.S. and the United Kingdom. eForce Media Raises $7.6M
Santa Monica-based eForce Media, a firm developing lead generation software, has quietly raised $7.6M in venture capital, according to numbers disclosed in the quarterly PricewaterhouseCoopers venture capital report earlier this week. CoreObjects Finds $8.5M
Los Angeles-based CoreObjects has raised $8.5M in an unannounced venture capital round. The funding was disclosed publicly in numbers released from PricewaterhouseCoopers in its quarterly venture capital report; however, the round was first disclosed in a regulatory filing in February. The round included involvement by Palomar Ventures. Emergent Game Technologies Raises $12M
Calabasas-based Emergent Game Technologies has raised $12M in additional funding for the firm's online video game software, according to information released in the PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA Moneytree report earlier this week. Emergent has not announced the funding. Emergent's software is used by video game developers for developing Xbox 360 and PC games. Networks In Motion Names VP
Aliso Viejo-based Networks In Motion said today that it has named David Shimoni as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Shinomi was most recently president of Mobixell Networks, and has also served at a VP at Comverse. Networks In Motion is developing location based services and wireless navigation products, and is backed by Mission Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, and Sutter Hill Ventures.

Clone Interactive Receives $2.8M
Los Angeles-based Clone Interactive, a USC spinout developing technology around 3D avatars, has quietly raised $2.8M from Mission Ventures, Selby Ventures, and the Tech Coast Angels. The firm commercializing technology from the University of Southern California that takes images of a face from any digital camera and creates a geometrically perfect, photorealistic 3D model.

YouMail Names CTO
YouMail, a Tech Coast Angels funded startup focused on customized voice mail services, has appointed a CTO for the firm. YouMail has hired Mike Rudolph as Chief Technology Officer of the company, according to executive search firm BridgeGate. Rudolph has served as Vice President of Product Management and Product Development at LogicalApps, and has also served at First Advantage.

Integrien Appoints Marketing Exec
Irvine-based Integrien, a firm developing software for predicting system outages and for systems management, said Thursday that it has appointed Roy Agostino as Chief Marketing Officer. Agostino joins the firm from Elemental Security, and has also served at Information Builders and Crystal Decisions.
