BuzzDash Adds Widget Feature
Social polling firm BuzzDash has launched a new web widget, which allows users to post their own opinion pools on their websites, blogs, or social networking profiles. The Marina Del Rey-based firm said this week that the new service will allow anyone to view, solicit and share opinions on their own web pages. BuzzDash is a new startup focused on web-based opinion polling.

Grand Challenge Advances Five So. Cal. Teams For Robot Race
The DARPA Grand Challenge, the self-navigating, robotic vehicle race sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, announced this morning that it has selected 53 teams to advance in the next step of the race. Five of those teams are located in Southern California, and will receive site visits from DARPA as part of the continuing selection process. Helio Rolls Out Ocean Handset
Los Angeles-based Helio has rolled out the firm's new Helio Ocean mobile device, saying today that its new "dual-slider" 3G handset provides connections into instant messaging, text messages, picture messages, and emails, along with music downloads, an HTMl browser, GPS-enablement, and other features. Sony Online Expands EverQuest
San Diego-based Sony Online Entertainment has announced a new expansion pack for the firm's popular EverQuest II online game. The new software is EverQuest II Rise of Kunark, which the firm said will be available both at retail stores and via digital download. The title is the fourth expansion software package for the firm's game. Sony Online Entertainment is a developer of massively multiplayer online games, which allows players to connect into an online game with thousands of subscribers.

MySpace Enhances Copyright Protection
Los Angeles-based MySpace is continuing its efforts to help copyright holders keep materials from the firm's popular online social networking web site, saying today that it has launched a new feature called "Take Down Stay Down". The new feature prevents users from re-posting video content which has been tagged as violating the rights of a copyright holder. MESoft Appoints VP
Burbank-based MESoft has appointed a new VP of Services, saying this week that it has named Steve Pitts to the new position. Pitts will oversee the firm's service offerings, deployments, and support. Venture-backed MESoft is a developer of software tools for managing digital media content and workflow, and recently announced $6M in funding from Peninsula Equity Partners and Sid R. Bass Associates. Pitts has previously served as VP Studio and Feature Production IT at 20th Century Fox.

Linksys Grows Team
Irvine-based Linksys, which is a division of Cisco, said Thursday that it has hired four new executives. The maker of wireless and networking hardware for the consumer and small business market said it named Geraint Anderson as VP and General Manager of its Service Provider Organization; Craig Gledhill as VP Asia Pacific; Vince Hassel as Chief Financial Officer; and Steve Silva as VP of Connected Home Integration. Entropic Names Bridges VP, General Counsel
