Motorola Invests In VOCEL
San Diego-base Vocel, a developer of mobile marketing technology, has raised a round of venture capital from Motorola, Motorola disclosed Tuesday. Motorola said that its venture capital arm, Motorola Ventures, invested in Vocel's opt-in-personalization, wake-up discovery, and other mobile marketing services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Vocel provides technology that personalizes marketing messages through a recommendation engine based on a user's past buying habits. Hitachi Consulting Buys Iteration2
Hitachi Consulting, the consulting arm of Hitachi, Ltd., said Tuesday that it has acquired Iteration2, an Irvine-based provider of Microsoft software consulting. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Iteration2 is a Microsoft Dynamics partner, and supplies financial management, supply chain, and customer relationship management products to enterprises. Iteration2 serves California, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada companies.

Verari Adds $20M
San Diego-based Verari Systems announced today that it has completed a round of funding worth over $20M, in a round led by Carlyle Venture Partners. Other investors in the round included Voyager Capital, Sierra Ventures, and an unnamed strategic investor. Verari develops blade-based computing and storage devices. The firm said the funding will be used to bring its next generation of servers and storage to market, and to further research and development.

Interneer Scores $2M
Los Angeles-based Interneer has scored $2M in a venture investment from GroundWork Equity, the firm said Tuesday morning. The firm, which develops technology that allows companies to configure web-based applications, also named Michael Edell Chief Executive Officer of the firm. Edell is founder and Managing Partner of GroundWork Equity; Edell previously founded eLabor.com, which was sold to Microsoft and ADP. Amgen Acquires Ilypsa For $420M
Thousand Oaks-based Amgen announced Monday afternoon that it has agreed to acquire Santa Clara-based Ilypsa, a company developing non-absorbed drugs for renal disorders. The deal is worth $420M in cash. Ilypsa's compounds are targeted at treating kidney disease and its complications. The firm's compound has completed Phase 2 studies for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on hemodialysis. Napster Inks Mobile Music Deal With Swisscom
Los Angeles-based Napster and Ericsson announced today that the firms are in an agreement with Swisscom Mobile, a Swiss mobile operator, to provide Napster's mobile music service to Swisscom mobile subscribers. The Napster Mobile service is a joint effort of Napster and Ericsson, with Ericsson providing hosting and managing of the operations, with Napster providing the content programming. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The new service will be launched this week.

DivX Teams With NXP Semiconductors
San Diego-based DivX and semiconductor firm NXP Semiconductors said today that DivX has certified a series of processors from NXP. The processors, which are used for set-top boxes, personal media players, in-car media players, and digital media adapters, now support playback of the DivX media format. NXP Semiconductor is a based in The Netherlands and is a spinoff of Philips. DivX is a provider of media encoding and decoding technology.

CEIVA Ships To Staples
Los Angeles-based CEIVA, a consumer electronics manufacturer that develops digital picture frames, announced this morning that its digital photo frames are now available for purchase at 1,400 Staples locations. The firm said that the rollout is the first with an office superstore. CEIVA's digital photo frames allow users to play slideshows of their digital photos, from a memory card, or over a network.

SOA Software Launches Partner Program
Los Angeles-based SOA Software has launched a new partner program targeted at consulting firms, the firm said Monday. The company said that its new SOA Software Consulting Partner Program include companies providing consulting, training, support and development assistance for its products. The new program includes a number of consulting firms nationwide, including AZORA, e-brilliance, ERBWeb.NET, HubZone, Los Angeles-based Omnikron, and Tekmark Global Systems, among others.

j2 Global Names CFO
Los Angeles-based j2 Global, which operates the eFax online fax service, said Monday that it has named Kathy Griggs CFO of the firm. As a result, the firm said that former CFO Scott Turicchi, who also serves as co-president of the company, will "more fully devote his energies to mergers and acquisitions and public company matters." Griggs also assumes the role of Chief Accounting Officer from Gregg Kalvin.
