Mahalo Forks Over Cash For Search Results
Santa Monica-based Mahalo.com, the human-powered search engine started by Weblogs founder and former Silicon Valley Reporter publisher Jason Calacanis, has launched a program to pay users to add content to the firm's service. According to Calacanis, the Mahalo Greenhouse program will pay users $10 to $15 per search result. The program requires approval to become what the firm calls a "Part Time Guide", and is paid out on a scale that depends on the number of search results submitted by a user. S (More info...)

Morgan Stanley Funds Biomass Energy Firm
San Diego-based Bull Moose Energy, a firm that is developing biomass power production plants, said Wednesday that Morgan Stanley has agreed to invest up to $60M in the firm. The funding will go towards financing development of renewable energy plants near urban centers, starting with a plant in San Diego. Sonos Adds Retailers
Santa Barbara-based Sonos, a developer of a multi-room wireless music system, said Wednesday that it has added three new retail chains. According to Sonos, ABT Electronics, Ken Crane's, and Vann's will carry the firm's Sonos Digital Music System. ABT Electronics is a regional retail in Chicago; Ken Crane's serves Southern California, and Vann's is located in Montana. Zetera Tapped By Surveillance Hardware Provider
Irvine-based Zetera has been selected by a maker of IP video surveillance hardware. According to POLAR Industries Inc. a provider of network recording euqipment for the IP surveillance industry, it has integrated Zetera's network storage technology into its line of network video recorders. The firm is using Zetera's storage products to provide hard disk storage space for its video capture. Zetera develops a low cost, IP-based, proprietary networking protocol to create networked storage systems.

Bid4Spots' Dave Newmark Speaks On eBay Deal
Last week, Encino-based Bid4Spots (www.bid4spots.com) turned heads with a deal with online auction giant eBay, as word of a partnership to provide eBay's emerging Media Marketplace with radio auction services spread. Los Angeles-based online comparison shopping site PriceGrabber.com announced today that it has launched a new, green shopping service called ShopGreen. MySpace, Ford Models Team
Los Angeles-based social networking web site MySpace said today that it has partnered with Ford Models, a leading modeling agency, to provide an online destination for the Ford Models Supermodel of the World model search. The companies said that they will maintain a MySpace profile where prospective models can apply and interact with the agency. The promotional effort will also include video content, fashion, fitness and beauty advice; along with other information from Ford.

Omega Sensors Gets Commercialization Award
San Diego-based Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT), a collaborative partnership among academia, industry, and government, said today that it has awarded $49,000 to Omega Sensors, a product developing Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology. Storix Rolls Backup For IBM System i
San Diego-based Storix, a provider of Linux and AIX backup and recovery software, said today that it has added support for IBM's System i product line. The firm's SBAdmin backup software provides backup and restore, along with the ability to reconfigure System i systems with automatic hardware detection. According to the firm, the reconfiguration capability helps manage issues of finding identical hardware after a disaster.

Whyville.com Runs Concert Promotion With tobyMac
Pasadena-based Whyville.com, an online virtual world targeted at the tweener market, said Tuesday that it is running a live concert with hip hop artist tobyMac as part of the site.
