Disney Buys Game Studio
Disney Interactive Studios said Thursday evening that it has acquired Junction Point Studios, an Austin, Texas-based video game studio. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The firm said that Junction Point Studios will create new video game franchises for next generation gaming platforms. Junction Point is headed by video game designer Warren Spector, who worked on Ultima Underworld I and II, System Shock, and Deus Ex, among other titles. TargeGen Raises $40M
San Diego-based TargeGen announced Thursday afternoon that it has closed $40M in a Series D round of funding. The firm, which is developing biopharmaceuticals, said that the funding came from Innovis Investments, VantagePoint Venture Partners and CTI Life Sciences Fund, along with existing investors Forward Ventures, Enterprise Partners, Chicago Growth Partners/William Blair Capital Partners, CDP Capital, BB BIOTECH, Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management, Pappas Ventures and other investors. NextWave Wireless Buys Majority Stake In IPMobile
San Diego-based NextWave Wireless, a provider of mobile broadband products, said Thursday evening that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire shares of IPMobile, a Tokyo-based telecommunications company. The firm is buying the interest from Mori Trust Co. Ltd, of Japan. The firm said that the deal will give it a 69.2% stake in IPMobile. MRV Loses CFO
Chatsworth-based MRV Communications said Thursday afternoon that it has appointed Guy Avidan, currently VP and General Manager of MRV International, as acting Chief Financial Officer, after the firm's current CFO resigned. MRV said that Kevin Rubin, its current CFO and Corporate Compliance Officer, resigned to accept the position of CFO with another company. Broadcom Completes $143M Global Locate Acquisition
Irvine-based Broadcom said late Thursday that it has completed its acquisition of San Jose-based Global Locate, in a $143M cash deal. The acquisition, which was originally announced in June, gives Broadcom ownership of Global Locate's global positioning system (GPS) and assisted-GPS chipsets and software. Cymer Names Asian Head
San Diego-based Cymer, a manufacturer of eximer laser light sources used by the semiconductor manufacturing industry, said Thursday afternoon that it has appointed Motohiko Tahara as president of Cymer Asia Pacific. Cymer joins the firm from Ultratech K.K., and has also served at KLA Tencor and Applied Materials. Tahara previously served as president of Cymer Japan between 2000 and 2002. Cymer develops products used for photolithography.
