AltaSens Rolls HD CMOS Image Sensor
Thousand Oaks-based AltaSens, a provider of HD CMOS imaging sensors used for HD cameras, announced a new sensor which supports the 1080p60 high resolution HD format Thursday. The firm said it has begun shipping engineering samples of a new 2.5-megapixel system-on-a-chip, which is targeted at manufacturers of high definition cameras. Tryarc Acquired By The Revere Group
Los Angeles-based IT consulting firm Tryarc, LLC has been acquired by The Revere Group, the firms said this morning. According to The Revere Group, a Chicago-based business and technology consulting firm, it has acquired Tryarc to better service the companies in the western U.S. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Disney Acquires Club Penguin
Burbank-based Walt Disney Company said Wednesday afternoon that it has acquired Club Penguin, an online virtual world for kids. Club Penguin, located in British Columbia, operates an online virtual world which allows kids to chat with other users and participate in online activities. According to Disney, the social networking web site has more than 700,000 paid subscribers. Club Penguin will become Disney's Club Penguin, and will remain based in Canada. Tobira Therapeutics Raises $31M
San Diego and Princeton, New Jersey-based Tobira Therapeutics said last night that it has completed $31M in a Series A financing. The newly created firm is developing treatments for HIV/AIDs. The funding for the company came from Domain Associates and Frazier Healthcare Ventures, which co-led the round, along with Montreux Equity Partners and Canaan Partners. RealtyTrac Ties Into Classifieds Firm
Irvine-based RealtyTrac, an online provider of information about foreclosure properties, said Wednesday that it has inked an agreement to provide its listings to an online provider of web-based classifieds software. RealtyTrac said that Adicio, a provider of software for creating online classifieds, will give its clients access to the firm's default, foreclosure, auction, and other real estate listings. Nexsan Scores Win At Wellcome Trust
Thousand Oaks-based Nexsan Technologies, a supplier of SATA-based storage arrays, said this morning that its products have been selected by the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. Financial size of the deal was not disclosed. The Wellcome Trust is using Nexsan's SATAbeast storage arrays as part of its genetics research and scientific research efforts. Nexsan said that the install is part of an 42 terabyte (TB) project supplying a 120-node Linux cluster.

Novatel Names Weinert President
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless, a provider of WCDMA, CDMA, GSM, and other wireless data networking cards and products, said today that it has promoted Brad Weinert to President, and ended its search for a CEO. Weinert was most recently COO and acting CEO of the firm, and has been at Novatel for more than nine years. Novatel also said that it has promoted Catherine Ratcliffe to Senior Vice President of Business Affairs and General Counsel, and Chris Ross to Senior Vice President of Operations. (More info...)

j2 Licenses Patents To Hostopia
Los Angeles-based j2 Global Communications said Thursday that it has licensed the firm's digital fax patent portfolio to Hostopia, a provider of web services for the small and medium sized business market. Financial terms were not disclosed. j2 said that it has given Hostopia a 10-year, non-exclusive, worldwide license to its portfolio in exchange for an upfront payment plus ongoing quarterly royalty payments. j2 Global is a provider of Internet-based FAX and communications services.

Genomatica Adds Investor
San Diego-based Genomatica, a biotechnology company developing metabolic biomanufacturing processes for chemical and biological products, has quietly received venture capital from Draper Fisher Jurvetson. The funding has not been announced, however DFJ recently added Genomatica to the firm's web site as a portfolio firm.
