ThisNext Rolls Map Mashup
ThisNext, the venture funded shopping discovery service based in Santa Monica, has just rolled out a new map mashup that shows a real-time map of activity of the firm's web site. The new "Activity Map" feature, which the firm just made available on its web site, shows real time activity of users as they browse and shop for goods. Buy.com Launches Social Networking Sales Service
Aliso Viejo-based Buy.com said today that it has launched a new service, Garage Sale, which allows consumers to sell goods from their business and social networking pages. The new service is rolling out on Facebook, and Buy.com said it will also offer the service on other social networking web sites. According to Buy.com, it will allow users to upload product information and photos, and begin selling products on their personal profile pages. SodaHead Inks Deal With The Family Values Tour
Los Angeles-based SodaHead, the social polling startup headed by ex-MySpace VP Jason Feffer, said Tuesday that it has inked a major deal with the Family Values Tour. According to the firm, the music tour will use SodaHead's polling widget to engage with its fans. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. SodaHead offers an online service which allows anyone to ask questions and polls from other users, and network and interact with other users. Passenger Adds $8.3M
Los Angeles-based Passenger, a firm developing software-as-a-service tools that allows companies to add private social community features to their web sites, said today that it has raised $8.3M in a Series B funding. The round was led by Steamboat Ventures, and also included Shelter Capital Partners and StarVest Partners. STEC Ships Solid State Drives
Santa Ana-based STEC, a manufacturer of flash memory products, said today that it has announced a new family of solid state disk drives. The drives, which use flash memory as a replacement for traditional spinning hard disk drives, are targed at enterprise storage applications. STEC said its new line of MACH8 products will range from 8GB to 256GB capacity, and provide very high performance--up to 10,000 random read IOPs and 800 random write IOPS. Xirrus Connects UK Music And Arts
Westlake Village-based Xirrus, a manufacturer of Wi-Fi equipment, announced this morning that it has powered a number of music and arts festivals in the United Kingdom, with company Wireless Events Ltd. Strix Deploys In North Dakota Coal Mine
Calabasas-based Strix Sytsems, which develops wireless mesh networking systems, has deployed another system, this time in North Dakota. The firm said that its outdoor WiFi systems have been deployed by The Falkirk Mining Company, a lignite coal producer, as part of a surface coal mine in North Dakota. Size of the deal were not disclosed, however Strix said that the installation of its mesh network currently covers 25 square miles.
