Last week, Los Angeles-based Passenger (www.thinkpassenger.com) raised $8.3M in a funding round from Steamboat Ventures, Shelter Capital Partners and StarVest Partners. Campus Explorer Raises Series A
Santa Monica-based Campus Explorer has raised a Series A venture round from Rincon Venture Partners and O'Connor Ventures, along with the founders and investors in Rent.com, the firm has confirmed with socalTECH. socalTECH first reported the funding in July. Campus Explorer provides an online web site focused on helping students find schools. O'Connor Ventures is the investment arm of Doubleclick's founder and former CEO, Kevin O'Connor, who now also sits on Campus Explorer's board of directors. (More info...)

inQ Raises $5M In Internal Round
Calabasas-based inQ, which provides live chat outsourcing for e-commerce web sites, has raised a $5M, Series D round of funding from the firm's existing investors. The funding came from Emergence Capital, Partech International, Dolphin Equity, and Hudson Ventures, which also funded the company's $7.75M round last summer. According to Bernard Louvat, the firm's President and CEO, the round closed in June. inQ provides live chat services targeted at increasing sales on e-commerce web sites.

SyncVoice Gets $11.6M
Costa Mesa-based SyncVoice Communications said today that it has raised $11.6M, and changed its name to Communicado. The firm, which provides management software for managing voice-over-IP and other communications, said that the funding came from SoftBank Capital, Clearstone Venture Partners, and Hummer Winblad Venture Partners. The firm said the funding will be used to expand marketing, sales capacity, and support for its products.

Gamma Enterprise Technologies Adds Customer In New Zealand
Woodland Hills-based Gamma Enterprise Technologies said this morning that it has signed on new customer, in New Zealand, for its archiving software. Gamma said that Turners and Growers, a produce distributor in New Zealand, is using its ArchiveBridge product in conjunction with Symantec's Enterprise Vault software. Qualcomm Loses General Counsel
San Diego-based wireless firm QUALCOMM said today that its general counsel, Lou Lupin, has resigned his position as executive vice president and general counsel, and has been replaced by Carol Lam, the firm's senior vice president and legal counsel. Qualcomm did not give a reason for Lupin's departure, but said that it is now conducting a nationwide executive search for a new general counsel. D-Link Ships 48-Port Switch
Fountain Valley-based D-Link, a manufacturer of networking devices, said that it has introduced a new 48-port managed switch with support for Power over Ethernet (PoE). D-Link said that the new device, which is part of its series of xStack switches, are targeted at small and medium sized businesses. Power over Ethernet is a standard which allows power for networking devices to be delivered via Ethernet cables, eliminating the need for separate power supplies.
