Interlink Sells OEM, Branded Product Assets
Camarillo-based Interlink Electronics said Wednesday afternoon that it has sign a definitive agreement to sell the assets of its OEM Remotes and Branded Products business to SMK Electronics, in a deal worth $11.0M. According to Interlink, the transaction is expected to close August 31st. Interlink said that it will focus its business on e-transactions and speciality components. SMK is a Tokyo-based manufacturer of remote controls.

Amgen Cuts Staff
Thousand Oaks-based Amgen said Wednesday that it will cut 12-14 percent of its staff, and take charges of $600-$700M. Amgen, which has been facing negative FDA label changes for its EPOGEN and Aranesp compounds, had been expected to announced the move sometime this week. The layoffs will affect approximately 2,200 to 2,600 staff. According to Amgen, the move will also come in conjunction with reduced planned capital expenditures of approximately $1.9B during 2007-2008.

Globat.com Buys Newista
Los Angeles-based ISP Globat.com said today that it has acquired web hosting firm Newista. Financial terms were not disclosed. Globat is a provider of web hosting, and serves over 100,000 customers. Rocklin-based Newista was founded in 2003, and provides shared and dedicated web hosting services.

Websense Names CFO
San Diego-based Websense said this morning that it has appointed Dudley W. Mendenhall as Chief Financial Officer of the firm. Mendenhall joins the firm from K2, the sportings good manufacturer. Websense said that Mendenhall will be rsponsible for all aspects of the firm's global finance and accounting. Websense is a provider of web filtering software.

Luxtera Rolls Optical Interconnect Product
Carlsbad-based Luxtera announced Tuesday that it has shipped a 40 gigabit optical product, targeted at providing connectivity for Infiniband and other high speed interconnects. The new product, Blazar, is geared for use in clustered computing and datacenter applications, and permanently integrates fiber cables with optical interconnects. Xirrus Deploys In Iowa
Westlake Village-based Xirrus, a manufacturer of Wi-Fi networking hardware, said Tuesday that it has been selected by a school district in Iowa. Size of the deal was not disclosed. Xirrus said that the Schaller-Crestland School District will use the company's products for a district-wide rollout of a Wi-Fi network. Schaller-Crestland serves the cities of Schaller, Nemaha, and Early. Xirrus develops high performance Wi-Fi arrays for providing wireless connections.

Day Software Announces Customer
Irvine-based Day Software, a developer of web content management software, said yesterday that it has added the University of Oklahoma as a customer. The school will use Day's web content management system, Communique, for its external web site, along with its extranet. Day Software's product is used by companies to allow them to manage their web content.

ClipBlast Adds Metacafe
Los Angeles-based ClipBlast, an provider of online video search services, said yesterday that it has added the user-generated video site Metacafe to its index. ClipBlast said it will automatically index new video posted to Metacafe. Clipblast allows users to search for videos on the Internet. Metacafe is a popular online, user-generated video web site.

CaminoSoft Scores Certification
Westlake Village-based CaminoSoft, a developer of storage management software, announced yesterday that the firm's products have been certified by Xyratex, a provider of data storage subsystems. CaminoSoft said the interoperability testing and certification covers the firm's Managed Server HSM software for Microsoft Windows, Novell NetWare, and NetApp Filer environments.
