Nirvanix Unveils Business Storage Service
San Diego-based Nirvanix said today that it has emerged from stealth, and has unveiled a new business-to-business storage service. Nirvanix said that the new service will provide storage targeted at Web 2.0, media application, service provider, and consumer electronics firms. The new service will be offered as a service to companies. The company is headed by Patrick Harr, former CEO of storage over the Internet provider Streamload (now MediaMax). Mindspeed Technologies Buys Ethernet MAC Line
Newport Beach-based Mindspeed Technologies said today that it is in a deal to acquire the product portfolio and intellectual property assets of Ample Communications, a developer of Ethernet media access controller (MAC) products for the Ethernet aggregation market. Mindspeed said it will pay $4.6M for the assets of Ample Communications, which was in private foreclosure by its senior creditor. Mindspeed said it expects the acquired products to contribute approximately $3M to its fiscal 2008 year.

Broadcom Wins Another Ruling Against Qualcomm
Irvine-based Broadcom has had a reversal of a ruling that dismissed antitrust claims it had brought against Qualcomm in a court in New Jersey, allowing it to move forward in that case. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit reversed a lower court dismissal of Broadcom's antitrust case, which will allow the case against Qualcomm to go forward. The ruling reverses part of a decision made by a federal judge in New Jersey last year, and allows the case to process in the U.S. District court (More info...)

Tarari Acquired By LSI For $85M
San Diego's Tarari, a provider of semiconductors used for XML and application packet processing, has been acquired by LSI. Milpitas-based LSI Corporation said it will pay $85M in cash for Tarari, which develops chips and software used for accelerating the processing of anti-virus, other security, XML and network control, and other network packet processing applications. Gateway Sells Professional Business
Irvine-based Gateway, Inc. said early Wednesday that it sold the firm's Professional business segment to MPC Corporation, in a deal worth approximately $90M in stock. Gateway's Professional business provided products targeted at businesses, government agencies, and educational institutions. Gateway said that the sale would allow it to concentrate on its consumer business. Jacked Launches With NBCSports.com
Santa Monica-based Jacked is launching with NBC Sports, saying today that the firm has partnered with NBC Sports and NBCSports.com to power a new application for its 2007 Notre Dame football season. Jacked will provide real-time information, delieverd to users on NBCSports.com and synchronized with the NBC live broadcast.
