Cyntellect Gets $3M
San Diego-based Cyntellect said today that it has raised $3M in a venture funding round. The Series D round came from Bru II Venture Capital Fund, based in Reykjavik, Iceland. Cyntellect said that Bru was the only participant in the second close. The additional capital follows $15.1M in the Series D which was announced in July. Cyntellect is developing life sciences technology for life science research and cellular therapy.

TelASIC Raises $12.5M
El Segundo-based TelASIC Communications announced this morning that it has raised $12.5M in funding, in a new round led by ATA Venture. Prior investors Mission Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, and the IPO Group also participated in the round. TelASIC is a supplier of components for the HSDPA/WCDMA telecommunications market; the firm said that the funding will go towards expanding its manufacturing operations and customer support organization. FreeConference Adds Web Conferencing Features
Los Angeles-based FreeConference, a provider of free conference calling services, said this morning that it has added web conferencing features to its lineup of services. The company, which had previously only offered the free conference calling services, said that its new SharePlus Desktop Sharing service will allow users to share any application or presentation from their desktop. WD Completes Komag Acquisition
Lake Forest-based Western Digital Corp. said yesterday that it has completed its acquisition of Komag, Inc. The acquisition was worth roughly $1B in cash. WD is paying $32.25 per share of Komag for the firm. Komag has become WD Media Inc., and is now a wholly owned subsidiary of WD. Komag was a supplier of thin-film disks for the disk drive industry, a critical component of hard drives. WD is a major supplier of disk drives for the hard drive industry.

Conexant Appoints CFO
Newport Beach-based Conexant said yesterday that Karen Roscher will be joining the firm as the company's new Senior Vice President and CFO. Roscher replaces current CFO J. Scott Blouin, who is leaving the firm. Roscher joins Conexant from Motorola and Freescale Semiconductor. She was most recently VP of Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis at Freescale. CallWave Names Cavins President, CEO
Santa Barbara-based CallWave said Wednesday that it has named Jeffrey Cavins as President and CEO of the firm. Cavins was most recently President and CEO of Loudeye, and has also served at Exodus Communications and CSI Digital. Mark Stubbs, the firm's interim CEO, remains as CFO of the firm. Cavins also joins the board of Callwave. Callwave is a provider of voice communications and messaging services.

3Tera Loses Founder, Shuffles Execs
Aliso Viejo-based 3Tera, a developer of grid computing and utility computing applications, said Wednesday that founder Vladimir Miloushev, has died of a brain aneurysm. As a result, the firm has shuffled its executive staff, saying that Barry X Lynn, the company's Chairman, is now also serving as CEO of the firm. Apace Systems Ships Apple Storage Product
Orange, California-based Apace Systems, a developer of storage products for the video, audio, and media content market, said Wednesday morning that it has shipped a new online storage product targeted at Apple's XSAN storage product. The firm said that its new XOL solution suite provides enterprise-class storage will provide 18TB of RAID-5 storage for Apple Final Cut Pro and Apple's XSAN storage.
