Placebase Enhances Mapping Platform
Los Angeles-based Placebase, a startup developing online mapping APIs and tools, said this morning that it has added a new feature called Proview maps. The new feature allows users of the firm's online mapping tools to control the display of map layers, and differentiate their maps from other online mapping services. Intelligent Beauty Gets Funding
Manhattan Beach-based Intelligent Beauty, a marketing and technology firm which builds beauty brands, said this morning that it has received its first external round of funding. The funding came from Technology Crossover Ventures. Financial terms of the minority funding were not disclosed. Intelligent Beauty said it will use the capital to scale and expand its portfolio of brands, through strategic acquisitions and marketing. TV Guide, Glam Media In Syndication Deal
Los Angeles-based TV Guide Online and New York-based new media startup Glam Media said today that the two are in a syndication agreement. Glam Media will license Gemstar-TV Guide's interactive program listings grid on its web site, and within its network of lifestyle-focused web sites. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. MySpace, MTV Gear Up For Presidential Candidates
Online social networking web site MySpace and MTV said today that the firm's first online Presidential candidate event will feature Senator John Edwards. The series of events, which will link Presidential candidates with questions from MySpace viewers, will be held at the University of New Hampshire, and allow both users on the MySpace social networking web site and MTV's web site to send in instant messaging questions to the candidates. Allergan Buys Esprit Pharma
Irvine-based Allergan said today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Esprit Pharma, in a deal worth $370M. Esprit is a firm developing products for the genitourinary market, including compounds for treating urinary incontinence. The all-cash deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter. Esprit Pharma is headquartered in East Brunswick, New Jersey.

Alelo Scores New Afghan Language Win
Los Angeles-based Alelo, which provides language training systems for the military, said Tuesday that it has scored a contract to develop a system for the Dari language. Dari is one of Afghanistan's two major languages. Alelo said that the deal with the U.S. Army is with the firm's Tactical Language Training subsidiary. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Autobytel Inks Deal With Auto Group
Irvine-based Autobytel said this morning that it has signed a deal with The CAR (Conant Auto Retail) Group, a privately owned automotive group that Autobytel says is one of the nation's largest. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, however Autobytel said that The CAR Group will use its online referral program. The CAR Group owns Norm Reeves Honda, among other dealerships. Ixia Signs NetLogic
Calabasas-based Ixia, a provider of IP test systems, said Wednesday that its products have been selected by NetLogic Microsystems. NetLogic is a developer of processors. Ixia said that NetLogic is using its 10 Gigabit Ethernet Application & Streams Module to show its processors at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF).
