BoingBoing Launches Video Site
Blog site Boing Boing, Federated Media Publishing, and DECA said today that Boing Boing is launching Boing Boing TV, a new daily video site which will feature short three-to-five minute long snippets along the lines of the popular Boing Boing blog web site. Boing Boing TV is partnering with DECA, the newly funded digital entertainment studio located in Santa Monica, in the venture. Websense Completes SurfControl Acquisition
San Diego-based Websense said today that it has closed its $400M acquisition of Surfcontrol plc, a provider of security software. WebSense had announced the acquisition in April, and had been waiting for regulatory approval for the deal. WebSense said that it will continue to support SurfControl's web filtering products through 2011, and will continue investments in development of SurfControl's email and web filtering software. Staccato Signs Japanese Distributor
San Diego-based wireless semiconductor manufacturer Staccato Communications has signed on a Japanese distributor for the firm's products. Staccato hahs signed up Hakuto, as Japanese distributor of its Ripcord CMOS ultrawideband chips. Staccato said that Hakuto will represent the firm throughout Japan. Staccato is a developer of ultrawideband (UWB) wireless chips used for wireless networking. The firm is venture backed by Intel, Allegis Capital, Bay Partners, Charles River, and Interwest.

International Rectifier's Lidow Resigns
El Segundo-based International Rectifier reported late yesterday that it has lost its CEO, Alex Lidow. The firm said that Lidow has resigned as both its CEO and a director of the firm; no reason for the resignation was given. However, Lidow has been on leave since August due to issues with sales bookings at its foreign subsidiaries, uncovered in an audit earlier this year. Don Dancer continues as IR's acting CEO; the firm also says it has engaged Korn/Ferry for a replacement for Lidow.

SEMDirector Appoints Sales VP
San Diego-based SEMDirector, which develops search engine optimization and search marketing products, said today that it has named Brett Powell as Senior Vice President of Sales at the firm. SEMDirector also promoted Matt McGee to Regional Vice President of its western region.
