Verimatrix Raises $5M
San Diego-based Verimatrix, a provider of content security and watermarking tools, said Thursday that it has raised $5M in additional capital. The round came from Mission Ventures, an existing investor in the firm. Verimatrix develops digital rights management and watermarking software which it sells to cable and pay television operators.

Carbine Studios Unveils Gaming Efforts
Computer gaming publisher NCsoft Corporation announced this morning that it has unveiled a new Orange County studio, based in Aliso Viejo, California. The new game studio, Carbine Studios, is made up of seventeen employees from Blizzard Entertainment, who were formerly working on the massively multiplayer game World of Warcraft. OptionEase Ties Into Investment Bank
San Juan Capistrano-based OptionEase said Wednesday that it has signed a strategic alliance with Westlake Securities, and investment bank based in Austin, Texas. OptionEase, which develops software-as-a-service for tracking stock options, said taht Westlake Securities will provide valuation services for 409A requirements in conjunction with OptionEase's web-based tools for managing equity compensation plans. Strix Partners With Video Surveillance Equipment Provider
Calabasas-based Strix Systems, a provider of wireless mesh networking hardware, said today that it has partnered with ICOP Digital, a digital surveillance hardware provider. The two said that they are in a co-marketing partnership and have integrated a video surveillance mobility solutions. Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed. Luxury Link Taps eBay For CEO
Los Angeles-based Luxury LInk, an online luxury travel website, said Wednesday that it has hired a new CEO, Drew Marich. Marich joins the firm from eBay, where he was general manager of Rent.com. Marich has also served at MVP.com, McKinsey & Company, Del Monte, and Smith Barney. Current LuxuryLink CEO and founder James Kaplan has become chairman of the board of directors of the company. CallWave Hires Sales VP, Opens Silicon Valley Offices
Santa Barbara-based CallWave said yesterday that it has hired Chris Arisian as Vice President of Sales and Business Development. the firm, which provides Internet-based communications services, said that Arisian joins the company from Exodus Communications, where he was a Senior Vice President. Arisian has also served as VP North American Services Sales at Oracle. Arisian is based in Silicon Valley, and will head up new offices the firm is opening in November there.
