SmartDrive Systems Steers In Another $46M
San Diego-based SmartDrive Systems announced late Tuesday that it has raised $46M in a Series D round of funding. The firm, which develops systems targeted at fleet vehicles for monitoring driver safety, said the round was co-led by Oak Investment Partners and New Enterprise Associates. Prior investors Revolution Ventures, The Founders Fund, Edelson Technology Ventures, and Western Technology Partners also participated in the funding. DivX Gets Win With Sony Playstation
San Diego-based DivX said Tuesday morning that its video decoding technology has been adopted by Sony Computer Entertainment's Playstation 3 platform. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. DivX said that its technology will be integrated into the Sony PS3, through a future system software update. End user availability of the DivX support was not announced, however DivX said the technology is available to developers as part of a recently released software development kit from Sony.

Pacific Pathway Gets Funding
Solana beach-based Pacific Pathway, which manufactures emergency preparedness and personal safety products, said Monday that it has raised a round of equity financing from Highland Consumer Fund. Financial terms were not disclosed. Pacific Pathway develops retail products branded as Life+Gear and SafetyCross.

Gorilla Nation, Panache Partner On Pre-roll
Los Angeles-based Gorilla Nation and Encino-based Panache announced this morning that Gorilla Nation is adopting Panache's in-video advertising delivery technology. Userplane Links Into Google OpenSocial
Santa Monica-based Userplane, which provides web-based applications to developers, said today that it will support Google's new OpenSocial API. Google's new API is a set of common programming interfaces which allows social networking web sites to provide a standard way of accessing information about social network members. Ripple Inks Deal With Borders
El Segundo-based Ripple, which is developing a network of in-store, television and video information screens, has inked a deal with book retailer Borders. According to the firms, Borders will launch a new, in-store television network in a collaboration with Ripple. Nanogen Cuts Business Line, Staff
San Diego-based Nanogen said late Monday evening that it is planning to close commercial operations of its array business, and reduce its staff by approximately 20 percent. Nanogen, which manufacturers diagnostics equipment for the health care business, announced the move shortly before announcing a loss for the quarter. Quest Software Acquires Provision Networks
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software said Monday afternoon that it has acquired the assets of Provision Networks, a developer of presentation and desktop virtualization software. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Provision Networks provides software which connects Microsoft's Terminal Services software to virtualization software such as VMware, Virtual Iron, XenSource, SWSoft, and Microsoft.
