Fanista.com Gets Funding, Launches Beta
Beverly Hills-based Fanista.com said yesterday that it has launched its beta web site, and will provide what it calls a "community-powered" marketplace for entertainment. The firm is looking to sell DVDs and CDs, rewarding users for signing up their friends. The firm said it will provide a ten percent commission for purchases made by friends from the site, and also offer ways for fans to share opinions. Sony, Yahoo Expand Distribution Deal
Yahoo said Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Sony BMG, which will extend its video-on-demand license, and which will also allow users to include Sony BMG songs in their amateur videos. Financial terms oft he deal were not disclosed, however the firms said that Sony BMG music videos will be available for distribution across Yahoo and through a Yahoo-branded video player, and that Yahoo users will be able to use various Sony BMG audio recordings in the video clips that they create. Mad Catz Completes Saitek Acquisition
San Diego-based Mad Catz Interactive said today that it has completed its $30M acquisition of PC game accessory firm Saitek. The deal included $15.5M in cash, plus $14.5M in convertible notes. The deal was announced earlier this month. Mad Catz said that it expects the acquisition to be accretive to its fiscal 2008 earnings. Saitek was a manufacturer of PC gaming accessories, including joysticks, PC gaming controllers, keyboards, speakers, and other PC peripherals.

QAD Adds Cunningham To Board
Santa Barbara-based QAD said Tuesday afternoon that it has added Terry Cunningham, former CEO of Infogenesis, to its board. Cunningham was also founder of Crystal Services, the firm behind the popular Crystal Reports software. Cunningham is currently CEO of Coral8, a software developer, and has also served as President and COO of Veritas Software and Seagate Software. World Mahjong Tour Gets Funding
Los Angeles-based World Mahjong Tour, a new startup founded by Pierre Wu of Click2Asia and David Wang of World Poker Tour, said Tuesday that it has raised a Series A round of funding. Amount of the funding was not disclosed, however the round came from Leo Chu, owner of the Hollywood Park Casino and Crystal Park Casino.
