Emulex Gives $1.5M To UCI
UC Irvine said Thursday that Emulex Corporation has provided the firm's Henry Samueli School of Engineering with $1.5M to endow a electrical engineering and computer science faculty position. UCI said the funding for the new Emulex Endowed Chair in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science will be used to support teaching, research and service activities of the faculty, which will be hired in the position. Viewsonic Reorganizes After Poor Results
Walnut-based display maker Viewsonic said late yesterday that it has reorganized the firm, making a number of executive changes and dropping the firm's President of ViewSonic Americas. The moves came after the company reported poor financial results for the quarter, with sales dropping from $192.6M in Q3 of 2006 to $163.7M for Q3 of this year. iQstor Ships iSCSI Product
Newbury Park-based iQstor Networks, a developer of storage area networking hardware, said Thursday that it has released a new iSCSI storage system. iQstor said its iQ2850 iSCSI storage system provides features such as volume management-based virtualization, snapshot, mirroring, remote replication, and other features. The new storage system handles up to 6TB in a single enclosure, and up to 240TB with external SATA disk enclosures. The firm said the new systems start at $14,400.

CinemaNow Names Marketing VP
Marina Del Rey-based CinemaNow said earlier this week that it has named Ashley Woodworth as Senior Vice President of Marketing. Woodworth joins the firm from Move Inc., where she was Vice president of Product. Woodworth also served at VP of Real Estate Products at Move, and has previously worked at bSOURCE and Hayes Briscoe Associates. CinemaNow is a provider of on-demand, Internet-based downloads and rental of Hollywood movies and TV shows.

Kythera Biopharmaceuticals Adds CFO, Looks To More Funding
Calabasas-based Kythera Biopharmaceuticals said Thursday that it has named John W. Smither as CFO of the firm, as part of a move towards another funding round. The company, formerly known as Aestherx, said that Smither will be responsible for all of the firm's financial and administrative aspects. Smither joins from Amgen, where he served as CFO of Amgen Europe, Head of Internal Audit, and Executive Director of Corporate Accounting. Smither has also served at Ernst & Young. Gizmo Adds Video Calling
San Diego-based SIPphone, the company behind the free SIP voice-over-IP calling software Gizmo Project, said Thursday evening that it has released version 4.0 beta of its software. The new version of the software adds video calling features to the software package. According to the firm, the new beta release allows for video calling with other video-enabled, SIP client software. Gizmo's software allows users to instant message and voice calls to other computer users.
