Nirvanix Gets Win At Canadian Firm
San Diego-based online storage firm Nirvanix said Monday that it has signed on another user for the firm's services. Nirvanix said that Toronto, Canada-based Ogrant has chosen the firm's services for its school grant and scholarship services, which allow students to send videos and images to schools. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Nirvanix claims Ogrant chose the firm over similar services from Amazon S3. Regulus Therapeutics Snags Xanthopoulous As CEO
Carlsbad-based Regulus Therapeutics, the joint venture between Alnylan Pharmaceuticals and Isis Pharmaceuticals, said today that it has appointed Kleanthis G. Xanthopoulos as its President and CEO. Xanthopoulos joins the firm from Enterprise Partners Venture Capital, where he was a managing director. Xanthopoulos was a co-founder, President, and CEO of Anadys Pharmaceuticals before he became a venture capitalist at Enterprise. Xanthopoulos had joined Enterprise in June of 2006.

Helio, Quincy Jones III In Hip Hop Content Deal
Los Angeles-based Helio, a provider of MVNO services, and QD3 Entertainment, the production company of hip hop artist Quincy D. Jones III, said today that they have launched a new, QD3 branded channel as part of one of Helio's premium video packages. QD3 Entertainment said it will feature streaming music-related video content, including interviews, clips, and comedy from its artists. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Activision, Vivendi In $18.9B Deal
Paris-based Vivendi said Sunday that it plans to acquire control of Santa Monica-based Activision, in a $18.9 billion dollar deal. Vivendi said that it will combine Vivendi Games, Vivendi's interactive entertainment business, with Activision, to create a new firm called Activision Blizzard. The new company will own both the popular Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, and Tony Hawk titles from Activision, as well as the popular World of Warcraft online game, Crash Bandicoot, and other games from Vivendi. Arrowhead Research Names CEO, Looks To Buy Nanotech Firm
Pasadena-based Arrowhead Research said this morning that it has appointed a new President and CEO, Dr. Christopher Anzalone, in conjunction with a deal to buy Benet Group LLC. Benet Group LLC is a private equity firm focused on nanotechnology, and which is also headed by Anzalone. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Gamma Enterprise Technologies Gets SAP Certification
Woodland Hills-based Gamma Enterprise Technologies, a provider of data management software, said this morning that it has received a certification from SAP for its products. Gamma said that its InfoShuttle Data Security and InfoShuttle Client Builder packages have both been certified as part of the "Powered by SAP NetWeaver" program. AWR Names CFO
El Segundo-based Applied Wave Research (AWR) said Monday that it has named Rick Bottomley as Chief Financial Officer. Bottomly joins the firm from Silicon Design Systems, where he was also CFO. Bottomley has also served at venture capital firm Gilo Ventures, New Silicon Value, Zen Research PLC, and Ernst & Young. Applied Wave Research is a developer of electronic design automation tools for the telecommunications and high speed computing market.
