iRent2U (www.irent2u.com) is a new startup, which is looking to create an eBay-like marketplace for people looking to lend or rent items. The firm, which launched a beta of its site last month, was the result of a business plan competition at Pepperdine and three MBA students. Userplane Releases Rev Share Numbers
Santa Monica-based web applications provider Userplane said Thursday that it has paid out more than $500,000 in its advertising revenue sharing program, Userplane Money. The firm, which is a subsidiary of AOL, allows web publishers to include its instant messaging, web chat, and other web widgets for free on their web sites in exchange for a share of advertising revenue through those widgets. Gemstar-TV Guide Acquired By Macrovision For $2.8B
Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide International and Santa Clara-based Macrovision Corporation said this morning that the two companies have signed a definitive agreement where Macrovision will acquired Gemstar-TV Guide. The deal is worth approximately $2.8 billion in cash and stock. According to the firms, Macrovision will pay either $6.35 in cash or 0.2548 of a share of common stock to acquire Gemstar-TV Guide, in a deal which is expected to close in early Q2. THQ Installs International GM
Interactive entertainment software publisher THQ Inc. announced Thursday that it has appointed Marko Hein as general manager of its international business unit. The Agoura Hills, Calif.-based company said Hein, working from THQ International GmbH's headquarters in Zurich, will help evaluate new product and platform opportunities. Allergan Adds To Board
Irvine-based Allergan said Thursday that that it has appointed Dawn Hudson to the firm's board of directors. Hudson is the former President and CEO of Pepsi-Cola North America; Hudson has also served at D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, a New York advertising agency. Allergan is a provider of opthalmology, dermatology, and other medical devices and related products.

Mad Catz Names DeRuig to Board of Directors
Third-party video gaming accessories manufacturer Mad Catz Interactive Inc. reported earlier this weekthat it has appointed John C. DeRuig to its board of directors. The San Diego-based company said it now fields six board members, five of whom, including DeRuig, are independent. A former certified public accountant, DeRuig boasts 20 years of management experience with Mattel Inc. and 13 years with Buhrman NV.
