NextWave Creates New Business Units
San Diego-based NextWave Wireless, a provider of hardware and software for the mobile market, said Thursday that it has created two new business units focused on mobile multimedia and wireless broadband. The firm said that its new NextWave Mobile Products unit will include its PacketVideo subsidiary and the company's semiconductor development group, and will be headed by James Brailean. Oversee Acquires Moniker
Los Angeles-based Oversee.net said Thursday morning that it has acquired Moniker, a provider of domain name registration, asset management, and monetization services. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Moniker, which is based in Florida, focuses on the domain name - "domainer" - market, and offers name registration, escrow, traffic monetization, domain auctions, and other domain name portfolio services. WD Rolls 'Green' Hard Drive
Lake Forest-based WD is taking aim at power consumption in the firm's hard drive line, saying Thursday that it has rolled out a new, power-optimized version of its WD AV hard drives. According to WD, its new Greenpower family of hard drives reduces power consumption by over 40 percent over standard hard drives. Gevo Licenses UCLA Technology
Researchers at UCLA's Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science have licensed technology to Pasadena-based biofuels startup Gevo, UCLA said Wednesday, but did not disclose financial details of the exclusive technology licensing deal. ValueClick Names Yovanno COO
Westlake Village-based Internet advertising firm ValueClick said today that it has promoted David Yovanno to Chief Operating officer of the firm's U.S. Media operations. Yovanno has been at the firm since 2000, and was most recently the company's general manager of U.S. display advertising. According to the firm, Yovanno will take over the duties from James Zarley, the firm's executive chairman. CinemaNow Inks Deal With Macrovision
Marina Del Rey-based CinemaNow, the Internet-based video-on-demand service, and Macrovision, which operates All Media Guide and is in the process of acquiring Gemstar-TV Guide, said today that the two have inked a deal to allow consumers to download video content directly to Macrovision-enabled set top boxes, digital television, and network attached storage devices. The Active Network Acquires RegOnline, WingateWeb
San Diego-based The Active Network said this morning that it has acquired RegOnline and WingateWeb, two providers of web-based events management services.
