Google Invests $10M In eSolar
Pasadena-based, grid-scale, utility solar systems developer eSolar has received $10M in funding from Google, Google.org confirmed Thursday as part of the launch of several new initiatives at the search engine giant's nonprofit arm. ManiaTV Moves To LA
ManiaTV, the online content provider behind such shows as Tom Green Live and Dave Navarro's Spread Entertainment, said Thursday that it is relocating its headquarters and content operations to Los Angeles. The firm, which was based in Denver, Colorado, runs an Internet television network focused on pop culture, music, comedy, and other professionaly produced content. Transonic Combustion Gets New Funding From Khosla Ventures
Camarillo-based Transonic Combustion, a firm which is developing an advanced fuel injection system for automobiles, said Thursday that it has received an additional investment from Khosla Ventures. The firm said the third round of funding makes Khosla the largest shareholder in the firm. Vinod Khosla has joined the firm's board as part of the funding. DivX Inks License Deal With AMD
San Diego-based DivX said Wednesday that it has inked a licensing agreement with AMD. According to DivX, AMD will include its codec technology in certain AMD Xilleon processors for digital TVs. DivX develops video encoding and decoding technology which it licenses to consumer electronics manufacturers and software developers. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. QLogic Joins Microsoft Interop Group
Aliso Viejo-based QLogic said Thursday that the firm has joined an interoperability group headed by computer giant Microsoft. QLogic said that it has joined the Interop Vendor Alliance (IVA), an effort to enhance interoperability between Microsoft software and hardware vendors. Strix Adds Mobile Products
Calabasas-based Strix Systems, a provider of wireless mesh networking products, said Wednesday that it has rolled out a new system focused on mobile, in-vehicle systems. The firm said its new Mobile Wireless System connects vehicles into its Access/One outdoor wireless system. The new product is being targeted at public safety, railway, municipal, and other networks. HireRight Targets Small Businesses
Irvine-based HireRight, a provider of online, employer screening products, said Wednesday that it has rolled out a version of its services specifically targeted at small businesses. Withoutabox Acquired By Amazon's IMDB
Studio City-based Whitoutabox, an online services provider focused on independent film and artists, has been acquired by The Internet Movie Database. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. According to IMDB, Whitoutabox will continue to function as a stand-alone operations based in Los Angeles.
