Helio, Buzzd Target Club Hopping
Los Angeles-based Helio, the MVNO funded by SK Telecom and EarthLink, said Wednesday that its has partnered with Buzzd, a provider of real-time location based information for bars, clubs, and restaurants. According to Helio, Buzzd is now accessible on all of its devices. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Buzzd provides information about local entertainment and events at nightclubs and bars, along with reviews and other social features.

Alentus Buys Ohio Data Center
Laguna Niguel-based Alentus Corporation, a provider of web hosting and managed services, said today that it has agreed to acquire the data center and clients of Ohio-based AO Technologies LLC. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. AO Technologies operates a data center in downtown Columbus, Ohio, providing co-location for SMB and enterprise clients. Networks In Motion Creates Research Lab
Aliso Viejo-based Networks In Motion, a provider of wireless navigation services for the mobile market, said today that it has opened up a research and development arm it is calling NIM Labs. Networks In Motion said the R&D arm will work on social networking solutions, advanced mobile phone platforms, and new wireless technology. MindTouch Adds VA Linux Founder As Advisor
San Diego-based MindTouch, a company developing an open source, wiki software platform, said today that it has added VA Linux founder Larry Augustin to its board of advisors. Larry Augustin founded and was CEO of VA Linux, which is now SourceForge. The firm also said that Matt Asay, who is general manager, Americas and VP of Business Development for Alfresco, has also joined the advisory board. Emulex Ships 8Gb FC Adapters
Costa Mesa-based Emulex, a developer of Fibre Channel host bus adapters and other storage networking hardware, said today that it has shipped new, 8Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs. The new adapters are among the first available at the new 8Gb/sec Fibre Channel networking standard. Emulex said the new LPe12000 family of HBAs has 13 design wins under its belt, but did not disclose details on those wins. The Emulex hardware is used to connect PCs and servers to data storage networks.

Imagine Communications Names CFO
San Diego-based digital video processing semiconductor firm Imagine Communications said today that it has named Terry Kinninger as Chief Financial Officer. Kinninger joins the firm from R2 Technology, where he was CFO and Executive VP of Business Development. Kinninger has also served in similar roles at Bridge Medical, Delphi Information Systems, Integral Systems, MetaCreations, and WebSideStory. Trancepta Gets Win At Distributor
Aliso Viejo-based Transcepta, a Tech Coast Angels-backed startup offering electronic invoicing to businesses, said Tuesday that the firm has signed on an electronics distributor, WYNIT, as a customer. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. WYNIT is a distributor of consumer electronics, digital photography equipment, computer peripherals, and related supplies.
