Invitrogen Invests In Q Therapeutics
Carlsbad-based Invitrogen, a provider of services to the pharmaceutical and biotech market, said Friday that it has made a minority invevstment in Q Therapeutics, a biotechnology firm focused on treatments for central nervous system diseases. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed. Q Therapeutics is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Invitrogen is a $1.3B life science technologies with over 4,700 employees.

Guidance Bolsters Board
Pasadena-based Guidance Software, a provider of software for compliance and e-discovery, said Thursday that it has named three new board directors. Robert G. van Schoonenberg of Avery Dennison Corporation, Stephen Richards, former CFO and CEO of McAfee and CFO of E*TRADE Group, and Marshall Geller of St. Cloud Capital have all joined the board. Guidance Softare develops software used for electronic discovery, corporate governance, and compliance.

QLogic Names New Board Director
Aliso Viejo-based QLogic said Thursday afternoon that it has named Kathryn Braun Lewis to its board of directors. Lewis has previously been an executive at Western Digital, most recently President and COO of Western Digital's Personal Storage Division; she also has held board positions at Lantronix, Artisoft, and PacifiCorp. Lewis is currently vice chairman of the board of directors of Share Our Selves and THINK Together, two nonprofits serving the Southern California area. QLogic is a developer (More info...)

NextWave Wireless Links With Partners
San Diego-based NextWave Wireless said earlier this week that it has inked a set of partnerships with companies in the WiMAX industry. NextWave, which is focused on developing technology for the handset and mobile market, said that it has inked partnerships with Qtopia, EB, Opera Software ASA, HelloSoft, MontaVista Software, and Texas Instruments.
