ABC Launches Short Form Programming Group
Disney-ABC Television Group said Thursday that it has launched a new group focused on original, short form programming. The new group, Stage 9 Digital Media, is launching with a new web comedy series, "Squeegees," which is being shown on ABC.com and YouTube. According to Disney-ABC Television, the series will be sponsored by Toyota. The new Stage 9 unit will be headed by Barry Jossen. Aspyra Appoints Zierick CEO
Calabasas-based Aspyra, a provider of clinical and diagnostic information software for the healthcare industry, said Thursday that it has hired Jim Zierick as the firm's interim CEO. Zierick joins the firm from LogicalApps, where he was also CEO. Zierick also previously served at Peregrine Systems. Zierick has been on the company's board of directors since September of 2007. SYSPRO Rolls Out SMB Software
Costa Mesa-based business software maker SYSPRO said today that it has rolled out a new, integrated budgeting application for small and medium sized businesses. SYSPRO said its Budget Maestro for SYSPRO application, which was jointly developed with Centage Corporation, is targeted at budget devleopment, forecasting, what-if scenario planning, and financial and management reporting. CardioNet Sets IPO Terms
San Diego-based CardioNet said in a filing with the SEC this morning that it is looking to offer 6.6M shares of the firm's common stock in an IPO, at between $22.00 and $24.00 per share. CardioNet's IPO is being underwritten by Citi, Lehman Brothers, Leerink Swann, and Thomas Weisel Partners. The firm develops systems for monitoring patient health for outpatient treatment. UCSB Launches Energy Efficiency Institute
The University of Santa Barbara is launching a new Institute for Energy Efficiency today, in an effort to focus its faculty members on energy saving technology development at the school, the school said today. MySpace, TMZ In Content Deal
Los Angeles-based social networking site MySpace and celebrity news show TMZ said Wednesday that the two are in a new content partnership, where TMZ will provide clips to MySpaceTV. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. MySpace and TMZ said that TMZ will create a new, branded channel on MySpaceTV featuring clips from the TMZ television program.
