Symwave Nabs Broadcom Exec For CEO Position
San Diego-based Symwave, a supplier of analog and mixed signal semiconductors, said Tuesday that it has hired on Yossi Cohen as the firm's President and CEO. Cohen was most recently Senior Vice President and Group General Manager of Broadcom's Mobile Platforms Group, and had previously managed both Broadcom's Bluetooth and Gigabit controller businesses. MabVax Therapeutics Raises $8M For Cancer Treatment
San Diego-based MabVax Therapeutics has recently raised $8M in a Series A funding round, from GBP Capital. The firm is focused on development and commercialization of immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer. According to MabVax, the firm's technology is based on work on monovalent cancer vaccines at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, which has licensed the technology to MabVax.

Jacked Links With KCAL On Lakers Coverage
Santa Monica-based Jacked, a provider of a web publishing platform which provides synchronized sports information with sports broadcasts, said today that it has partnered with KCAL 9 in Los Angeles. According to the firm, it will provide an interactive viewing experience for Lakers games throughout the remainder of the season and for 2008-09. Web 2.0 Investments Jump, But May Be Peaking
Dow Jones VentureSource is reporting today that the Web 2.0 investment boom may be peaking. According to the firm, there has been a record $1.34B invested in 178 Web 2.0 deals in the U.S. in 2007, up 88% from 2006. However, Dow Jones found that the results were significantly bolstered by the $300M investment in online social networking site Facebook, which represented 22% of all funding into Web 2.0 companies in 2007. Luminous Medical Raises $23.5M
Carlsbad-based Luminous Medical said today that it has raised $23.5M in a Series B round of funding. The new round was led by Adams Street Partners, and also included RiverVest Venture Partners, Finistere Ventures, De Novo Ventures, and Latterell Venture Partners. Luminous Medical is developing an automated blood glucose monitor for in-hospital use. The round brings the company's total raised to $32.5M. De Novo and Latterell are existing investors in the company.

Linksys Ships New Wireless-G Phone
Irvine-based Linksys said Monday that it is shipping a new Wireless-G IP phone, the iPhone, which is targeted at providing voice-over-IP connectivity via Wi-Fi. Linksys, which is owned by Cisco, said that the Cisco Wireless-G IP iPhone (WIP310) provides VoIP connectivity via WiFi Internet access, and is targeted at consumers and small businesses. SAIC Buys Linguistics Firm
San Diego-based Science Applications International Corporation announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire SM Consulting, Inc., a Linthicum, Maryland-based provider of services to the federal, state, and local government market and others. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. SMC offers linguistic services, foreign language translation, and training to the defense and intelligence industry. Solarflare Appoints VPs
Irvine-based Solarflare, which develops 10 Gigabit Ethernet semiconductors, said this morning that it has promoted Martin Porter to Vice President of Software Development, and named Danny Shamlou as its Vice President of VLSI Design. Porter was previously software director at the firm, and has also served at Conexant.
