Digital Domain Sets IPO Terms
Venice-based Digital Domain, a provider of digital effects for the film and television market, said in a filing with the SEC Monday afternoon that it is offering 6M shares of its common stock at between $12.00 and $14.00 per share. The firm will trade on the Nasdaq Global market as "DTWO." The firm's IPO is being underwritten by Thomas Weisel Partners LLC, Oppenheimer & Co., William Blair & Company, Merriman Curhan Ford & Co., and GunnAllen Financial, Inc.

mTraks Lands $550K In Angel Funding
San Diego-based mTraks, which operates an online social networking sites focused on music, said Monday that it has raised $550,000 in angel financing. Names of the firm's investors were not disclosed. mTraks' online music site also includes a digital music marketplace offering DRM-free, MP 3 tracks and online music subscription plans. The additional funding comes on top of $550,000 in seed funding raised by the firm last May.

Disney Interactive Buys Chinese Video Game Firm
Glendale-based Disney Interactive Studios said Monday that it has agreed to acquire Gamestar, an independent video game software firm based in Shangai and Wuhan, China. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Disney Interactive said that Gamestar will provide talent for the firm's global growth plans. Six year old Gamestar provides art and technology for the interactive entertainment industry, and employs more than 90 people. The acquisition is the sixth for Disney Interactive. kidthing Signs Game Firms
Los Angeles-based kidthing said today that two companies have signed on to distribute their content through the firm's web platform. According to kidthing, Los Angeles-based Tocali Games, a developer of casual game engines, and Utah-based Advanced Brain Technologies will distribute their content through the firm's "web 2.0 global learning platform." Verari Rolls NAS, iSCSI Appliance
San Diego-based Verari Systems, a developer of rackmount and blade-based computing systems, said this morning that it has rolled out a new storage appliance for the NAS and iSCSI market. Verari said its SB5165XL StorageServer product provides both NAS and iSCSI SAN storage networking capability, focused on the storage consolidation market. The new blade appliance provides up to 24TB of RAID capacity, and is targeted at web 2.0, social networking, and and other enterprise applications.

CalAmp Settles Another Patent Suit
Oxnard-based CalAmp has settles a patent infringement suit it had outstanding against iMetrik Solution, a provider of vehicle location services, the firm disclosed this morning. Financial impact of the deal were not disclosed. CalAmp had previously sued iMetrik over patent infringement of two patents it owns related to vehicle location systems. Quest Launches Communications, Other Products
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software has launched two new unified communication products, along with enhanced an existing software product to support VMware, the firm said today. Quest said it has added MessageStats and Active Roles Server, two new tools targeted at MIcrosoft's Office Communication Server 2007. MessageStats provides reporting on instant messaging, web conferencing, and voice calls; Active Roles Server handles monitoring and control of information in Microsoft's Active Directory. BakBone, Asempra In Technology Partnership
San Diego-based data storage firm BakBone Software and Asempra Technologies, a provider of data protection software, said today that they are in a partnership. Asempra said that the firms will invest in joint product development, marketing, and service delivery. The deal adds continuous availability and data protection (CDP) capability for Microsoft Windows environments for BakBone, which primarily provides Linux, Solaris, and Mac OS backup.
