EMC Buys Iomega
San Diego-based Iomega and data storage giant EMC said Tuesday afternoon that EMC has agreed to acquire Iomega, in a $213M deal. EMC said it will pay $3.85 per outstanding share of Iomega. The firms said that the addition of Iomega will enhance EMC's reach and focus in the consumer and small business markets. EMC expects its tender offer for Iomega to complete in the second quarter of the year. Iomega is a provider of data storage products and services. DTS Sells Film Restoration Business
Agoura Hills-based DTS, which provides digital audio and other technology, said Tuesday afternoon that it has sold its Digital Images business in a $7.5M deal to Reliance Big Entertainment Ltd. The firm's DTS Digital Images unit was previously known as Lowry Digital Images, and provides film imaging and restoration services for Hollywood. Venture Farm Invests In Vator.tv
Irvine-based Venture Farm, the early stage funding firm run by angel Sid Mohasseb, has made an investment in Bay Area firm Vator.tv, the firm announced Tuesday. Venture Farm--which is looking to help companies with both early stage funding and operational expertise--did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. Slacker Inks Deal With Music Publishers
San Diego-based Slacker has inked a number of deals with the music publishing industry, the firm announced today. Slacker, which offers an online personalized radio service and portable music service, said that it has finalized deals with EMI Music Publishing, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Universal Music Publishing Group and Warner/Chappell Music. Internet Brands Buys Five More Websites
Los Angeles-based Internet Brands announced this morning that it has purchased five web sites in the leisure area. According to Internet Brands, it has acquired FitDay.com, an online site focused on fitness and calorie counting; HighDefForums.com, a site focused on next generation HDTV formats; HighDefDigest.com, which reviews Blu-ray and HD-DVD titles; AVRev.com, a home theater site, and VetInfo.com, focused on providing information about pet health. FOX Networks Buys Stake In European Ad Network
Los Angeles-based FOX Networks said this morning that it has acquired a majority stake in utarget, an online advertising network based in Europe. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. utarget operates an ad network focused on online video. FOX said that the new unit will be rebranded as utarget.Fox, and will work with Fox Interactive Media Audience Network to provide advertising to News Corp sites and third parties. QLogic Grabs CFO From Mindspeed
Aliso Viejo-based QLogic has snagged Simon Biddiscombe, former Chief Financial Officer of Mindspeed Technologies, as its CFO, the firm said today. Biddiscombe has also previously served at Wyle Electronics and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Biddiscombe had been at Mindspeed since 2000, having served as its CFO since Mindspeed's spinoff from Conexant Systems in 2003.
