Evolution Robotics, Bandai Team On Camera Phone Search
Pasadena-based Evolution Robotics, the Idealab-backed startup developing robotics technology, and Japanese firm Bandai Networks Co. Ltd. said Thursday that KDDI Corporation will include Evolution Robotics' "ER Search" visual search engine on a line of camera phones. According to the companies, the technology will allow consumers in Japan to do online searches by taking pictures with their camera phones. HostedDatabase.com Launches Web-based Software
Los Angeles-based AMULET Development Corp. has launched a new software-as-a-service offering, the firm told socalTECH Thursday, focused on customer relationship management (CRM), time and billing, project management, event management, and expense tracking. AMULET said that the new software, which is part of its web-hosted database service, is targeted at small businesses and corporate workgroups. LiveUniverse Buys Pageflakes
Hollywood-based LiveUniverse, the firm headed by former Intermix founder Brad Greenspan, said Friday that it has acquired Pageflakes, a San Francisco-based firm which provides personalized homepages. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. LiveUniverse said that the deal is a combination of cash and stock, plus "several million dollars" of online promotion on LiveUniverse's web sites. International Rectifier Names Acting CFO
El Segundo-based, mixed signal and analog semiconductor firm International Rectifier reported late Wednesday that the firm has appointed an acting CFO for the firm. The company said that Peter B. Knepper will servce in the position, as the firm looks for a permanent CFO. Knepper takes over from actin CFO Linda J. Pahl, who will remain as a consultant to the firm. Knepper comes to IR from Tatum LLC, where he is a Partner. Knepper is also founder of Keystone Advisors, and has served as CFO for MDI (More info...)

iRise Adds Vista Support
El Segundo-based iRise has added support for Microsoft Windows Vista for its software simulation apps, the company said Thursday. iRise, which develops software used to visual enterprise applications, said it is now fully compatible with Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office suite. The support is available immediately. iRise is used for requiring requirements and creating software simulations for business analysts and others to help define enterprise applications.
