Sometrics Launches Ad Serving Platform
Los Angeles-based Sometrics said Tuesday that the firm has launched a new ad serving platform focused on social networking sites. The firm, which is venture backed by the Mail Room Fund, AT&T, and Greycroft Partners, said the firm's new platform will allow hyper-targeting of advertisement within social networking and niche web sites. Veoh Networks Raises $30M
Los Angeles- and San Diego-based Veoh Networks said Tuesday afternoon that the firm has raised $30M in additional funding, in a round led by Intel Capital. The firm said that Adobe Systems Incorporated and Gordon Crawford, Senior Vice President of Capital Research Global Investors, also participated, in addition to the firm's existing investors. Snap Powers Mashable
Pasadena-based Snap Technologies, the Idealab startup which provides web widgets and web search tools, said Tuesday that social networking blog site Mashable has incorporated the firm's Snap Shots widget into its site. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Mashable is a popular, Web 2.0 web site which is popular with the technology crowd. Stickam.com Signs Leo Laporte
Los Angeles-based live video streaming web site Stickam.com said today that it has signed a deal to provide exclusive, live streaming to Leo Laporte's TWiT (This WEEK in TECH) show. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Stickam.com said that it will provide the live interactive video streaming services for TWiT, which is a video show which covers news and trends in technology. PluggedIn.com Launches With Rolling Stone
Santa Monica-based PluggedIn, an online music and HD video streaming startup chaired by Xdrive's Brett O'Brien, said today that it has inked a content and technology partnership with Rolling Stone. According to PluggedIn, it will add Rolling Stone news and video content to its new entertainment web site, with a dedicated Rolling Stone channel and exclusive content. eSolar Links With Southern California Edison On Solar Power Plant
Pasadena-based eSolar, the Idealab firm focused on commercial solar electricity, is in a deal with Southern California Edison to build 245MW worth of solar plants in the Antelope Valley. According to eSolar, the deal calls for it to deploy a number of concentrating solar plants in the region with production slated for 2011. Buzznet Launches Celebrity Site
Los Angeles-based social media startup Buzznet has launched a new web site focused exclusively on celebrities, Celebuzz.com. Buzznet, which is backed by Redpoint, Anthem Ventures, and Interscope, said that it has launched a beta today of its web site, and pulled together bloggers, celebrity photo and news agencies, and others to focus on the world of celebrity news and culture. Broadcom Ships Bluetooth Chip
Irvine-based Broadcom announced today that it has shipped a new Bluetooth chip, targeted at the mobile handset market. The developer of communications semiconductors said the systems-on-a-chip is focused on mobile handset applications, and can offer improvements in battery life and audio quality to handset makers. The company's Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR chip includes lower power consumption, smaller size, and better radio performance, and is based on 65nm CMOS.

IR Hires Compliance VP
El Segundo-based International Rectifier said Monday that it has appointed Alex Garcia as the firm's Vice President of Compliance. Garcia joins the company from Nvidia Corporation, where he was Senior Director and Head of Internal Audit. Garcia also served at BEA Systems and Hewlett Packard. International Rectifier is a developer of power management ICs and other components for the electronics industry.
