Virgin Mobile Buys Helio For $39M
Virgin Mobile said Friday morning that it has signed an agreement to acquire Helio, the Los Angeles-based MVNO that is a joint venture of Earthlink and SK Telecom. According to Virgin Mobile, it will pay $39M for Helio. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of the year. Virgin Mobile said the deal is expected to give it entry into the postpaid mobile phone market, and approximately 170,000 existing subscribers. 3Tera Adds MySQL Replication
Aliso Viejo-based 3Tera, a provider of cloud computing services, said this week that it has added support for MySQL replication to its catalog of systems. According to the firm, its MySQL-R appliance provides database replication for MySQL, a popular open source database. 3Tera is a provider of cloud computing and utility computing services which allows companies to create and deploy servers from their web browser.

Strix Wireless Gets Olympics Win
Calabasas-based wireless mesh networking hardware provider Strix Systems has signed a deal to provide its hardware for a use in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the firm said earlier this week. Financial impact of the win was not announced, but Strix said that its outdoor wireless networking system has been integrated into emergency response vehicles and other personal mobile communications for public safety. Strix said the win was a part of a design by Silicon-Star Science & Technology Development (More info...)
